Button properties not showing in properties

I’m new to buttons in GDevelop, so perhaps I’m missing something.

But, when I add a Button panel sprite I don’t see the properties I expected to see, such as text, padding, font, idle, etc.

I’ve tried it with 5 different buttons from the preset button options. Here is what I see when I look in the properties for that button:

This is what I expected to see based on the tutorial videos about buttons:

I’m working on a laptop using the application version of GDevelop. No other issues I can see, just this.

Huh never mind, i think its supposed to be like that…

Click on the edit button in the variant section to change the various components that make up the button object. You may need to duplicate first, but the popup will inform you if this is needed.

When you click on edit, you will then need to click on apply or cancel, as the variant will have opened up behind the popup while the popup remains open:

i never knew that.

(thanks @MrMen !)

So the preset buttons don’t come with font, padding, idle state, etc.?

I tried editing and duplicating the button. I see a new window with this button in it and I see some of the properties there now. How do I use that button in my scene?

I’m guessing this was changed at some point in the last year. All of the YT videos I can find show it working as one would imagine, but they are 1-2 years old:

They do. The panel sprite button is a custom object. You can edit the children of the button once you’ve duplicated it (right click on the panel sprite button object in the scene objects list in the editor). I haven’t played around with these yet, so can only offer basic advice.

@MrMen /@ChellaP , is this how its supposed to look like?

Ah, so is it custom objects that have changed in the past year such that they behave differently than they did when those two YT videos were made?

Thanks for the insight MrMen. Always appreciated!

The buttons in the video no longer have much to do with today’s system. I wouldn’t be surprised if this video disappears because it’s misleading. Ideally, a new video will need to be made in the future for the buttons, and another for custom objects.

Will an editing system like the old editor come back? That one was more practical. I had opened a topic about this in the past.
