Disturbing thing I ran into with Gdevelop

So I started up Gdevelop to practice learning how to use it more, and I was hit with an error message over and over.

Errors are, of course, normal and occur in any game design program. But I found that the ability to copy and paste the error code is missing?

Is this a personal experience with just my Gdevelop, or has Gdevelop really removed our ability to copy and paste text from it’s error messages and other pages?

Is this to exercise power over us for no reason?

In fact, you don’t need to report it or copy the error message; it’s sent to the team automatically when this type of screen appears.

I do need to copy it because I need to google it to find out how to fix it so I can develop my game.

You won’t find anything even if you copy the error. I can tell by looking at this that it’s an error originating from the game engine, not from your game.
An element in the GDevelop interface malfunctioned and produced this. However, it’s beyond my ability to know the reason for this crash. I just know it has to do with the GDevelop interface, given the message and my knowledge of the software’s codebase.

I am sad to say that I can not longer use Gdevelop, or support the developers for this program because of their decision to remove functionality and make the program more difficult for it’s users for no reason that benefits us.

I recommend as well that anyone starting out with Gdevelop to switch to a different program. I will also see if I can make a reddit post.

That’s quite an immature and toxic attitude. You fail to understand or grasp what Bouh has explained, and then threaten to start a campaign to cancel GDevelop. Grow up. The world can do without that kind of attitude and behaviour.

I understand what he said, and I also understand he’s payed by Gdevelop to make the situation sweeter than it appears. You, however, are unpayed, and are taking a side against us, the game designers and consumers.

While he is making a moral mistake, you are making an intelligence mistake. The only rational response to my thread should be “You are right, this is a mistake. An employee shouldn’t have implemented restrictions in that sense and as consumers, we will not buy into products that attempt to enslave us.”

He’s just explained why there isn’t a copy option, and if there was, why you wouldn’t find a solution searching for it on the internet. It’s a GDevelop issue, not an issue with your game. There’s no attempt to water it down - it’s a straight up explanation on how it is, with nothing to read into it, like you appear to be inferring.

There is not a copy option because Gdevelop has made the conscious decision to implement control over what it’s users can copy and paste. Making text unhighlightable has to be consciously programmed in. What you’re saying is to sweep this under the rug because it offends you that someone is asking for more freedom- not less. And apparently wanting that is immature and toxic, which makes me feel very suspect about your priorities.

Hi all!

I won’t take sides simply because the subject of this post doesn’t really deserve it.
On the other hand, I can’t help but find it hard to write this when you yourself say you’re just starting out with GD.

What do you mean sweep it under the rug? What Bouh was getting at is there’s no copy and paste facility because the bug is an internal GDevelop one, not something that can be fixed by changing events. The bug report is sent to the developers, so there’s no requirement for you to report it, they’re aware of it.

The toxic and immature part is the threatening to go to Reddit in an attempt to cancel GDevelop.

This thread, with the twisting and intentional misinterpretation of what has been written, is not healthy to this forum. I am locking it.

It’s a feature oversight. We’ll fix it soon in an upcoming release.
