Dynamic Per-Vector Lighting!

Hi guys! GDevelop already supports vertex colours!. So instead of baking the vertex data in other program, if someone exposes with JavaScript extension the underlying Three.js mesh material/properties - a fully dynamic per-vertex lighting in GDevelop should be possible!

Godot implemented per-vertex lighting last year:

It’s a gold mine for recreating old school graphics, unique styles, but also very performant on mobile. Traditional per-vertex lighting requires fewer calculations than the per-pixel PBR lighting; the math is computed at the mesh vertices rather than for every single screen pixel = equals great performance!

Vouching for this, but I haven’t seen any per-vertex lighting thingies in three.js yet so I doubt it’ll be added any time soon…

Maybe once GDevelop adds shaders and material editing support.

:grimacing: Yes.. But we can dream. Wonder if someone could vibe code the way through those request :joy:

“Vibe Coding” and “optimized” are two things that do not go together, and if there’s gonna be vertex lights, I’d want them to be optimized!

There’s probably some shader out there anyone would be able to grab and adapt into the engine though.
