Has anyone done this. Looks like fun! Whilst looking (for the umpteenth time) on itch to check up on my weekend Jam entry I noticed this Jam coming up.
There’s over 2000 signed up and quite strict rules. Eg 4 colours only. You get 10 days and strictly no AI art. Original art only. I think that this is exactly the sort of challenge where Gdevelop will shine. I’m not sure if i can do it this year as it starts in 14 days and i’ve loads of work at the start of it. I was looking for a retro pixel art challenge as i’m not particularly great at that sort of thing! so maybe next year.
I’m interested, and perhaps I’ll submit an application to participate.
Does it need to be compatible with the game boy? what format would that be?
no - i dont think think so. just look like a game boy game. Which sounds like fun to me!
You can just sign up and then decide later. I was looking for a retro challenge and i dont know anything about the rewards on offer but this seems good to me
The main problem is creating your own music.
why not ask Yhac or one of the others on here who like making music
Because I still want to create all the resources myself, and that’s the rule of the GameBoy jam.
Im pretty sure you don’t really need to know a lot about making music to make music that sounds gameboy like. There’s been discussions about various free apps on here and you could probably do it fairly easily
If I had any idea what kind of music was playing there…
i think just use something like this 8-Bit Composer – Free Online Chiptune Music Maker & Sequencer use a template and then play about with it
See screenshot - it doesn’t need to run on a game boy just look and feel like a game boy game. Same with the music. Personally for music i would use cubase and then make it sound gameboy like as that’s what i always do, and i can do things that i always do more quickly than likes that ive never done before!
