So, I was working on my game, and could open and modify it as I wanted.
But when I wanted to save my game, it said that I didn’t have the permission to do so, and that an error was occurring.
So I closed the game, since I had done pretty much nothing, and that I wouldn’t really care losing that small bit of my project.
Then I opened gdevelop later, but it refused to open my game. It says that it had automatically made a back up, but when I click on “open”, it tells me to check if the file exists, if it was created with gdevelop 5, and if I have the permission to open it.
Which, is true for the three.
I uninstalled gdevelop, and reinstalled it, but same problem.
I tried to change the path, but same issue once more.
So I went to check on the JSON file, and it’s completely empty!!!
I’ve spent a lot of time on this project, and I don’t want to loose my progress, can anyone help me out please?
Well, I had always saved my game, it’s been a few months since I started developing it, and I never had any issues with saving and opening it
Hi …is there only one json in the project folder?
Euh, i wanted to say: saves of your entire project with an another tools than GDevelop like the tool FreeFileSync.

No, there’s also an “autosave” file, that is also empty as well ![]()
No, I never used it unfortunately
I advise you to use this free incremental backup tool called FreeFileSync
A+

The same thing happened to me once. Although I could still open the game just fine.
Here’s a link to my topic on the issue:
Also the game has only one JSON file. That’s how it is by default an I don’t see why I would have changed it.
If i dont click save my game and just close i dont care coz, if i open that game t gives me a option to recover it with gdevelop auto save.
Wish u luck and hope u find ur game!
