GDevelop music showcase

Oh, I see. The other options to slow down audio seem to not be present, I actually had to export the audio to audacity 3 to slow it. Other than that, I really like the new overhaul, I’m glad I can trim audio knowing I have the option to undo part of it, that really helps me with sampling. Maybe I can use it to make more complex beats, since my current method requires a perfect loop so I can export it to a DAW. Only real issue is drums, how am I supposed to deal with those?

i see many options for changing speed, and one of them is interactive though

i don’t know madlib and neither the supposed original-original unreleased song.
in my view, the flip you did with the sample is great.
only the 0:35 abrupt change i didn’t like (this abrupt cut or something similar has in the reference as well)

also, something interesting i noticed, is that because of the lack of filters and probably other processings in your remake, the melancholic feeling is way less present in yours than the video you shared.
again, pretty cool flip!

Here’s another remake, this one being a remake of Fastlanes, AKA Mugwort, AKA the better Coffin Nail, by Metal Fingers DOOM.

Original beat:

My remake ( SoundCloud thought it was the actual mugwort, lol):

For the fun of it, here’s the song the original sample is from (I’ll start you at the guitar solo before the main sample):

Main menu theme for my game Worlda which I composed recently.

You know the beats I made based on video games? I decided refurbish two of the beats for a different release. That different release also has 3 new beats I made, also sampling video games.

Samples are:

Sonic CD ending track (JP)

Tomboy, from the Street Fighter III Arranged Soundtrack

Whiteland, from F-Zero 2201: The Graded Driver

Time Select: from the F-Zero jazz album from 1992

Forgot the name of the track, but it was from persona4

It’s out

I don’t really want to be bringing atention to these again, but I would appreciate any feedback on the beats I made.

CD: I think it needs some proper mixing (eq?), its quite tinny, it sounds like it was mixed for a flip phone ringtone

Selecto Time: Idk what you sampled but this sounds pretty cool honestly. Im noticing a reoccurring theme of mixing, and i think your songs need more stereo width.

Pianatic: Im noticing that youre weirdly a very good hip hop producer. I could rap over this track and last. Mixing is better in this one, but i have the most issue with the drums. The rhythm doesnt feel like it mixes with the rhythm of the piano. I suggest not using the cowbell like that, but more like an accent. The ending could have been more satisfying if you cut off the last note that barely played.

Streets will Forget: This song gives me some strange feelings, but all in all is pretty peaceful. I think your biggest problem might be the drums being too abrasive.

Cold ass Race: This song extenuates the low quality sound most of the other songs hid. Which has kind of a lot of clipping, and im noticing a theme of some of these songs feeling as if theyre in mono

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Here are my responses to them (i swear this looks like a chatgpt response):

I feel like the audio quality issues come from the fact I put compression on basically all the tracks, even the tracks that didn’t have them before. I also noticed that it clashed with the reverb effect in Streets will Forget. I also don’t think I’ve touched EQ once before so thanks for letting me know.

I haven’t really touched anything to do with stereo. Why? Just don’t know how to use it well. Thanks for pointing this out, though. Also, I listed the credits for all the samples on the description of the Soundcloud listing, but to save you some time, it comes from an old album of Jazz covers for F-Zero. Oh yeah, you should definitely go to a website like downloads.khinsider.com and look around at all the old VGM remixes and arrangements that where released. It’s a shame that not many people know about these, because a lot of these are really good.

I definitely could have done the drums in Pianatic better. They’re like that because the BPM doesn’t perfectly match the sample, so I adjusted the drums to compensate. Also, you’re right, the cowbell are used a bit too much.

On this track (and Cold ass Race) I tried arranging the kicks randomly. They way I did it does not sound good at all to be honest.

Do you know how to sample electronic music and make it sound good? Because if you do then please tell me.

Also, if a lot of the stuff I’m saying sounds stupid, it’s because I barely know anything about making music/beats/whatever. I’m basically just doing whatever.

ive never heard of this before if im being serious. Stereo doesnt just have to do about panning, its crucial for atmosphere, depth, anything. I suggest you dont even think about it

All the files youre using are probably already stereo
BTW…the answer is probably no, but if you wanna give me the stems of the tracks, id be curious to see what i could do

You know “Huit Octobre 1971”? You know, the track sampled in MF DOOM’s One Beer and the track used in those “Best Minecraft seeds” type videos from like 2023? I wanted to see what I could do with the sample and ended up making this:

Any thoughts?
