Hello,
Do you know if Gdevelop, Piskel and JFXR all work under Lunix ?
Yes linux is like others just another OS and you can operate all these programs through the Linux default web browser i.e FireFox
I’m using GDevelop on Linux through the App Image for more that 4 years. Everything works great.
If you mean Linux, I use GDevelop on Linux. I also prefer the AppImage which can be downloaded from GDevelop’s page or github for archived releases. And of course you can use the GDevelop web app if you want to.
Piskel and JFXR, if you mean the ones built into GDevelop work well, as do the web apps if you prefer them that way. I do find the Piskel in GDevelop buggy - even when I was on Windows. So it’s probably better to use the web app for anything more than a quick placeholder image for your game, or try the Piskel download for Linux.
For pixel art though I really prefer LibreSprite. It’s a fork off Aseprite, though not completely the same it’s still pretty easy to watch an Aseprite tutorial and apply it to LibreSprite when you are first learning how to use it.
Oups, you are right “Linux” …
Ok, thank you for your replies and advice !
Why do you use the app image? Of course it auto-updates, but last time I used the app image, GDevelop crashed on me because it failed to update properly.
Since then I’m using Flatpak version. I have no problem with the slight delay for updates to arrive.
App images don’t appear on the apps list. You need to organize them by yourself. I’m guessing that you organize app images by yourself or by using a third-party application to organize them for you.
I haven’t had issues yet but I’ll keep alert and can go back to Flatpak if I need to. But I like having multiple versions and also the Flatpak (at least when I was using it) never remembered my assets folder and I’d have to reselect it each time.
I organize the AppImages myself. I only use 2 AppImages (GDevelop and Inkscape) and one app I built from a venv (qutebrowser, as the version in Flatpak and Apt trigger Discourse forums into not allowing you to use any features), so it was just as easy to search how to do it myself. If I had a lot of them it might make sense to use a dedicated application to do it.
The trickiest part was figuring out why the long flat thingy on the bottom of the screen showed annoying gear icons when I was running Inkscape, GDevelop, or qutebrowser. But the fix turned out to be a simple one.
Yes, GDevelop is on Linux. It’s in browser, you can download it from Flathub or you can download it as “.appimage”.
