I setted up a CI with my latest software (GDexporter) and you can test the current version on master here: https://gdevelop-game.github.io/GDevelop-Open-Game/
Just to give you guys an update on the community project .
So far we have created a player,
Added 2 working guns with sound.
Added some houses and some interiors
We have also added side walks and a road on the outskirts of the map. Soon we would commence building the city 1.
You can join us in building this game right here.

I think a game of iron age will be good because to make a true gta game it require to many objects (because of modern objects) which will make the game heavy and unmanageable on event sheet.
sorry i didnt read entire timeline and it appears it has already begun.
In reference to graphic used-
lets do a assumption in a particular GDevelop scene
we will have around
80 objects as environment
10 working objects related to player
50 civilian and enemies
20 on screen data UI and effects
5 objects as weather and climate
5 vehicles with ai
20 civillian vehicles
as total 190 objects with detailed graphics may create a problem as game grows. comment on it. just throwing light.
and it will slow down animation.
I have a issue

Hi! I am interested in contributing to a shared project, but I have a few questions on the goal of the proyect:
- It will be just a GTA I clone? In my opinion, it is not about reinventing the wheel, but I have already seen many GTA clones of different qualities, and I do not know to what extent people would want to play another clone. Maybe it would be more attractive to give it some original or different touch to the atmosphere to make it more appealing. I don’t know, maybe a fantasy environment, dystopian or futuristic, like a space base, instead of a modern city.
- Are the NPCs going to have intelligence (vital routines and objectives based on Finite state machines, for example) or are they just going to move around the city randomly?
- Is there going to be any story or objective in the game? Missions and sub-missions? Will there be any RPG or character development elements? Character customization?
- Is there going to be a defined graphic style for all assets (art direction)?
Thanks!
We used the reference “gta like” to give people an idea of what and the the game would be like. Our map design and asset style is no where similar to the one in gta, same for our story, when implemented. We plan to add more features than Gta 1 and 2 (hopefully).
We plan add AI for the npc’s, for now they would move around the city randomly behaving normally, they can be provoked into a fight And hopefully have ammunitions.
Yes, we would have a story, (the story is currently in development). What’s the point of an open world game without missions, so we would have missions. at the moment it could be up to 50 missions. For the character customisation, no discussion has been made for that yet due to the characters asset. But be rest assured that it would be available.
Yes we have a definite graphics style, which has high resolution. Therefore we try to minimise or completely prevent the pixel art in the game.
Hi there Gem Dev.
I just want firstly say thank you for the tutorials over the past year and it has help me develop my dream game, which I will be releasing in the coming months.
As for you the GTA like game you are making I had similar idea and downloaded the Original GTA_1 game. I noticed a 1 things that will not work in Gdevelop.
I had trouble rendering the environment buildings as they are rendered as a top down 3d buildings. This will be a problem if you are trying to get the same feel to the GTA style. I understand that Gdevelop now has a unofficial 3d extension by Pandako but from what I can tell it’s only used for 1st person shooters and racing games. If you could share any insight on how we can use this extension in the engine for a top down 3d like GTA game it would help alot of devs like myself that want to make open world top down 3d games.
Just putting my 5 cents in the forum, can’t wait to see what this game looks like when its done.
Regards

Hello Everyone!
It’s been 4 full years since Gem posted the idea of this project for the first time.
We’re forming a team to reach the first release of this amazing (and very ambitious) project.
I’m going to update this thread with, let’s say, monthly statuses, with the aim of informing newcomers on where we’re at and what we’re looking to get done in the near future. I hope we catch and revive the interest of just the right people at just the right time, to continue pushing through the release.
Let me begin by uploading this graph and showing you a strategy:
To put it simply, we can imagine each of these branches as an independent “assembly line”. As an example, we can have a team who takes care of developing the design, layout and size of the world map; a team that takes care of recording music and SFX for the game; a team to develop the game logic; and so on and so forth.
The goal of working in “assembly lines” will help us identify bottlenecks, advertise “open positions”, and make on-boarding efficient.
That’s all for now.

Hi all!
A small update.
In order to help newcomers, both experts and beginners, who are willing to join the project, find their place more quickly, we’re trying to organize our team.
We have 6 areas in which you could join us:
1- Game Assets and Resources
2- Open-world Map Design
3- Player Controls and Game Mechanics
4- Music and SFX
5- Story and Plot
6- UI, VFX and HUD
You can indicate your level of experience:
1- New – you will need some assistance and can begin your journey by working closely with a more expert peer.
2- Beginner – you can do simple things on your own, but a more experienced peer will have to review to pass your work on.
3- Intermediate – you can handle simple things yourself and review works from the previous 2 levels. By working with more advanced peers you could learn new and advanced techniques.
4- Expert – you can review all the work done by the previous levels and can give newcomers a head-start in the journey.
5- Advanced – you can review all the work done by the previous levels and can help intermediate users become more proficient at what they do.
When joining the Discord server, you can send your 2 digits in a dedicated channel.
This is all for now!
