I don't have game idea

I’ve been making games in GDevelop for 2 or 3 years, but I don’t have any ideas right now. I want to create something unusual, or a platformer. Does anyone have any ideas?

I had an idea of making a Steven Universe fan-game and it would be a platformer where you could use Steven’s super abilities like shield, low gravity , etc. There would be a story about Steven got in one of the elder Crystal-Gem’s village where he would learn some crazy things that happened there, solve puzzles and avoid the guardian - bot, and try to find an exit from that place.
Actually, for making this you need to be like a real fan of that show, so basically this idea is not for everyone

i haven’t seen many people making undertale fights here, it’d be cool!;D

Ey i’m with you, after my first large game. My mind just went to nope no more ideas!

Look at some old games from the 80’s for the 8 bit computers, like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore Vic 20, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, BBC model B, Atari 800XL, Atari 130XE…

You can base your game idea on what that era had. Those games had play-ability and staying power, were relatively simple compared to today’s games and were fun to play. If you want platformers, look at something like the Monty Mole games or the Dizzy series by the Oliver Twins, or many of the games by Codemasters.

Different perspective here. If you’ve already made your ideas into games then do something else! Find another way of expressing your creativity, or learn something. Why make a game idea that you don’t love, when you could be doing something else that you do love? Wait for the game ideas to come while you’re happily doing other things.

Hello!

Totally agree with you, MrMen.

This is actually what I do, in general, no doubt influenced by my age.
However, making or recreating old games from this era allows you to improve and therefore better understand the GD engine.

You’d have to be careful doing remakes of older games, to not get done for copyright infringement.

Although to be fair, most of the old Spectrum games went public domain years ago, except Codemasters are still rather protective of the Dizzy games.

Does anyone remember the prominent case back in the late 80s where Nintendo sued the crap out of US Gold for creating “The Great Giana Sisters”? Which was basically a carbon copy of Super Mario apart from the main character sprites?

I have an original idea myself, which is kind of a mix of Lemmings and Tetris featuring Beavers building Dams, you use the little Beaver guys to build the Dams, like in Lemmings, the logs fall into place like Tetris, if the Dam breaks before you clear the level, it’s game over.

Hello @RichTheGameDeveloper!

As long as the game is not released, there will be no problem.
On the other hand, if you publish it on any network (including that of GD Games), that could be another story
And it will be even worse if you sell it.
