Then… I wanted an update to implement AI in games (NPC, rivals…). For example: I’m having a lot of trouble programming a car to compete against the player in a race. And it’s going to get even harder if this gets diverted just a little further, causing the AI to glitch in the middle of the track.
So, if possible, i would like AI update for an AI to learn how to play in order to compete against the player. They even have GD’s AI, which runs simulations of gameplay. So maybe it’s possible.
What do you (everyone) think how could this possibly work?
I think a learning-based AI system could be interesting for racing games, but I’d probably start with a simpler approach before trying to have the AI learn entirely from gameplay.
For example, the opponent could use predefined racing lines or checkpoints, while an AI system handles decisions such as accelerating, braking, overtaking, and recovering when it goes off-track. That could make the behavior feel adaptive without requiring a huge amount of training.
The difficult part would probably be defining the feedback the AI receives. It would need to know whether a decision actually improved its position, lap time, or ability to stay on the track.
A hybrid system could be interesting too: traditional game logic for basic driving and an AI model for higher-level decisions. That might reduce the chance of the opponent suddenly doing something completely unpredictable.
I’d be interested to see how GDevelop’s existing simulation features could potentially support something like this.
Off course. A chat for speak what it must do and a feedbacks for improve your tasks would good. I only need this to finish the game and to improve it a little more.
I would see more sense it asking other AI’s how it was made in other car games
Or ones you are interested in copying same car behavior
And then ask how to implement it in gdevelop
