I'm new and happy to learn

Hello Community,

I stumbled upon gdev a few days ago and I’m eager to try myself at making my own game, even thou my coding experience is basically 0. The “If this than that” logic clicks for me thou and I have a very creative mind, coming from the video editing field.

I only have my phone available for the next few days so practicing is limited but I’ve managed to make sprites move and colide on my phone with the help of the Gdevelop youtube vids…

My question, can you guys suggest any more channels/videos to watch while I travel so I can learn more?
I’m mostly interested in anything based around auto battling, so characters based around ai fighting etc. Think super auto pets, auto chess and the likes.
And anything on the topic of creating skills and fighting mechanics.

Anything is appreciated really, even just videos wich show what is possible with Gdev, I can figure out the how to’s later.

Thank you all for your time, I’ve seen alot of cool and interesting games on the website already!

There’s a lot of cool tutorial project videos on YouTube.

If you want help with making games then maybe try looking around in the forums. I know it’s certainly help me over the years.

As for video tutorials, I don’t use them to often, but the official GDevelop channel has a good selection of tutorials that you might want to check out. Ultimately, the best thing to do is search YouTube for tutorials.

Aight, yea I found alot on youtube already, just figured I’d say hello here and see if there’s some sources I don’t know about, that I should know about.

Welcome to Gdevelop Bonci!

Aside from Gdevelop’s officials videos, which are great for covering the basics
I find Winstreak’s videos to be helpful.

Such as this one

There are also a lot of pre-made games that you can open in the editor to check the logic behind their work, for free

If you want to go more in depth @VegeTato have created some really cool game demos that you can buy from Itch.io and download in order to check how they work.

For starters, I suggest to watch most of Gdevelop’s YouTube videos and if you have question ask the community here.

Also don’t try to create your dream game from first try! First create smaller simpler games that break down the behaviours of your big game in order to learn how the engine works. Once you have enough knowledge you will be able to focus 100% on the game you want to make.

That’s good advice, I will start simple and work my way up. I have a feeling my dream game is way to ambitious to ever become real but that’s fine, will see how much I can push it before I get frustrated haha.

Gonna devourer Winstreaks videos, that 1st one was great already.

Thanks and have a nice day!
