I’ve been learning the ropes of game development in GD5 for a couple of months, and I’m at a point where I want to start writing my own expressions. My question is, what language are the expressions based on? If I knew that, I could find resources to start getting comfortable with the syntax, which I think will help tremendously when I start learning to code in an actual language. Thanks!
Hi there, I’m doing the exact same thing! I’m not a coder or developer, but I’ve gotten familiar with GDevelop and now I’m playing with the Expression Editor. I think it’s JavaScript. I’ve finished a JS session on Lynda and it has helped enormously… and you know what else has been great? I took a book out of the library called Coding For Kids (I’m an adult. ). I figured if it could teach a 10yo JavaScript, it could teach me… and it did!
That is the spirit bro
Heather, good to hear it’s working out for you! I’ll definitely check out Lynda, plus that book you mentioned to see if it’s a good fit. It’s amazing what you can accomplish in such a short amount of time when you put all excuses aside and just do the thing. Good luck, I hope we get to play each other’s games sooner than later!
