When i create a object group and add an object there is a checkbox for if you want to add the object variables to the group. this doesnt work because no matter if i check it or not it adds the variables to the group. i dont want that thošø. also when i delete the variables inside of the group it deletes them for the object too
I tried to reproduce it in other projects. same there too. here is what i did:
make an object
add a variable to object
make a group and then add the object to it
here are some screenshots because i dont know why i should share the project files, like it said in the template, for this one
This check box only matters when creating a group, not when adding new objects on an existing group. This is why it is only in the group creation dialog and not the group editor.
okay so how do i make it so there are no variables for the group then? i tried jsut creating the group first and adding the objects after that but it still didnt work as i wanted it too. i dont get
it
edit: the rhing is i just remember it beeing the case that usualy there is a way to not add variables into the group. and i dont need them in the group but its not like smth doesnt work because of them. but still how come i cant find any way to create a group without it taking the object variables
Groups donāt have variable, they are the variables shared by all the objects of the group. If your objects donāt have any shared variable, you wonāt see any in the group.
Iām wondering if part of the confusion is that it only asks if you want to combine the object variables when the group is first created. Because if you later add objects to the group, it doesnāt have a checkbox and the newly added objects seem to get the shared variables added to them.
Iām complety in favor of objects within a group having the same variables. Thatās the only way that you can can use variable events for those variables using the group name.
But I realize there might be times that if the objects arenāt similar but you still want to be able to do something like hide them all with 1 action that you might not want to change the variables. Itās easier to handle objects with a minimal amount of variables. Why add unrelated variables.
Maybe this part belongs in another post. Maybe the issue is that when additional objects are added thereās no checkbox or popup that allows you to decide if you want to add the existing common object names.
Itās indeed something we considered but it would likely make all the variables in the group disappear which can be even more confusing.
Also, variables added to the new object take a lot less time to remove manually if you donāt want them rather than adding them manually if you do.
When youāre editing a group, you have access to the variables. The variables are only added to the objects when you close the dialog. If you ask not to copy variables, when you add new variables, wouldnāt they be added to the new objects? even to the objects added before adding the variable? So when you go back to the group editor, you donāt see the variables you just add but still most objects have it.
