Subject: Request to rename “godray” effect to industry-standard term “Volumetric Light / Light Shafts”

Hi GDevelop Team and Community,

I would like to suggest renaming the “godray” effect in GDevelop to a more technical and industry-standard term, such as “Volumetric Light”, “Light Shafts”, or “Crepuscular Rays”.

Here is why this change would be beneficial:

* Professional Consistency: Major industry engines like Unreal Engine and Unity use technical terminology such as Volumetric Lighting or Light Shafts for this shader/effect.
* Clarity: Terms like “Light Shafts” or “Volumetric Light” describe the actual physical behavior of the light effect more accurately.
* Inclusivity: Using purely technical and scientific terminology ensures the engine interface remains neutral and comfortable for creators from all backgrounds and cultures worldwide.

Thank you for your hard work on making GDevelop an incredible engine for everyone!

Best regards,

So none of points you present are to help unaware/new users who would immediately understand GOD RAY and not other two

But to streamline it for sake of streamlining it cause others use it?

The effect name is the PixiJS effect filter name.

I don’t think you’ll see GDevelop rename it unless PixiJS does. PixiJS Filters API Documentation
