Serious question about not updating GDevelop and cloud services like Exporting

Seems 4ian is doubling down on the Variable change, so im not gonna bother fighting it any more, its his engine and if he dosent want to listen, then fine, cant do anything about it.

So my question is, if i dont update GDevelop, will the cloud services stop working for me at some point down the line?

I prototype a lot when i make games, so the old version is far superior and faster for my needs.

This game im working on currently worries me, because its gonna be a main game that ill keep updating after launch, its not a one off, im serious about the longevity of this project, it will be a main brand game.

So heres my question, will i come across any issues further down the line when exporting using the cloud services?

Will i have issues getting my game into gd.games, or making one clique packages?

Other than not getting the newest features or bug fixes, will i be punished in any way for using an older version of GDevelop?

Thanks in advance

It is unlikely to happen anytime soon, but yes it is possible that you will not be able to use the cloud services at some point, if they have to change the export process for some reason (new pixi release requires changes to the build process that is incompatible with the old version, electron changes, etc).

I’ve only seen a compatibility change like that once over the many years of GDevelop 5.

Local export will always be functional.

The only thing I can think of is that like most other engines, prior versions of GDevelop aren’t supported for fixes/troubleshooting, so issues reported here/the github/the discord which are fixed in the currently available release would be closed out.

Other than that, I can’t think of anything else that might result from your choice to remain on an older version.

Thanks bud, that helped a lot.

I much prefer the old version, but was seriously afraid something might go wrong with cloud services, i love using gd.games, its one of the best parts of GDevelop…

hmm… i hate it, but i might rethink updating just for the sake of peace of mind… :frowning:

Thanks again!
