Your game is unique…
i think minecraft, i guess…But, in few ways
If you were trying to break away from Terraria, I would make the fundamental tool and pickaxe progression and the tools themselves different.
Actually, not so much the materials, more the fundamental tool concept. Like must it be pickaxe, hammer, and sword? Why not something else like, different?
i mean, nothing else makes sense in place of sword or pickaxe. But maybe i could make how you use the sword different, like interesting combat.
I keep running into the issue of where i know what not to do, and not what to do instead.
Let me think some suggestions for tools to start with other than swords or pickaxes, if I can, to help you
I should write this down so i dont forget, but a key thing i thought of was characters that were like the player that have small structures for bases, and can be either hostile or kind, named wanderers
- A whip that can cut and mine objects.
- A magical staff (never mind, don’t do this one)
- A magic hammer that can hit and mine objects, and also hit enemies
- A jackhammer
- Hi-tech gloves which shoots lasers that disintegrates objects around it.
- Laser gun which shoots lasers that disintegrates materials around it (mines materials) and also shoots at enemies, charged up with special kinds of materials you have to shoot to mine.
- A pair of boxing gloves that can punch rocks
You would have to make it so the player started with one of these tools at the beginning, of course.
Also, when creating the concept of a game, it is good to think of a couple of key concepts which can describe your game, preferably interesting, new ones.
Example: Worlda is
- Topdown Minecraft
- Game about a Bear
- It would be good if I had a third selling point to my game, but anyway
So for Voyager you would be like-
It is like Terraria BUT it also has: (example)
- Sail the seas in a pirate ship
- Explore space and different procedurally generated planets
- A special laser gun!
- Side scrolling sandbox
- Terrian generation
- Video…game…
…anyway,
You seem to want me to not use “pickaxe” which im not angry with, im just thinking what.
I thought of a similar tool named a “harvester”, which is like a pickaxe but not curved, and comes to a sharper point.
I cant remember if another person had this idea, i think a similar idea (if it was you and youre reading this tell me lol), but like, if you get high enough in the sky, gravity changes, and you land on another planet. Terraria definitely doesnt have that
I did suggest space. And the idea is to get as far away from Terraria as the east is from the west
- Terraria,
- Terraria,
- Terraria
Yeah, but someone suggested some sort of flip side gravity world too
So in my brain i combined the two and thought of another planet.
An inspiration for this is like how minecraft has different dimensions, that are wildly different, and original.

Planets could be a selling point of a game, Space voyaging, you know, you start like Terraria but the aim is to get to the next planet? You know, I would actually play that
“Shoot, lemme go back to mars rq to farm some more”
Awesome idea:
You have to build a rocket to get to another planet, and to get to other planets, you need to build different rockets that vary in appearance and materials
That would be SO COOL
Stararria
“I need to set up a mine machine to harvest gas in Jupiter, first I must build a rocket on Mars and get some gas from that cave to fuel it up”
maybe you could customize your rockets to be more efficient cutting down wait time, creating a whole rocket meta in the game
Yeah I have played some 2D rocket sims where you had to design your rockets, always loved those kind of games.
what if you could use any material, some are just horrible?
and some really good ones are rare based on a bunch of parameters?
were kinda cooking bro…
i want the ground to feel really familiar, and then you suddenly find a blueprint in a chest in a cave for a rocket…and then, well
Obviously metal ores and making alloys would result in vastly more effecient materials
Indeed we are!
And people are like, this is a dumb Terraria clone, and then they play a little more, and then they are like, wait a minute…
