Voyager (2D sandbox game)

Hello everyone!
I have awesome news; for the past few days i’ve been working on a project, much like Terraria and Minecraft and other sandbox games, and it’s named Voyager.

I decided to make a topic about it, because it has actually progressed very quickly, and I expect it to release.

It includes procedural generation, items, etc.

It is currently in alpha.

These are the items i’ve drawn so far.
The gray book is a diary entry, something I plan you to find in chests as loot, and each entry tells a piece of a greater story.

The weapon tiers go as follows:
Wood
Stone
Iron
Gold
Ruby
Emerald
Unknown Ore

The unknown being the most powerful. I wonder how I should name that, or how you should obtain it. Let me know if you guys have ideas!

And most importantly…Ideas in general! The game is very unoriginal and/or boring right now. I hope to branch it off in a slightly different direction from other games.

Here’s an idea, while I’m not familiar with terraria, In Minecraft, you know how at the bottom of the world is just bedrock, and below it, nothing? What if instead of that, you reach the core of the planet, and below it, gravity flips and you can mine to the other side of the world. Basically Minecraft/Terraria with a Spherical world. How will you be able to make that? No idea, you just asked for ideas.

(this is only a idea)

If you do implement mobs or smtn maybe at a specific depth theres a boss battle in which you have to kill it to gain the ore/ores (similar to the ender dragon).

I think maybe its missing diamonds, but you might be avoiding it to make it not being entirely similar to minecraft. it would also be cool to see other ores (maybe made up ones) or real ones.

And I kind of dont find building it 2d fun, so quests and armour? I think armour would be great, maybe the unknown ore gives jump increase or smtn like that.

Also lava monsters (if you add lava).

all random ideas :innocent:

It seems like a cool idea

Firstly, excellent drawing, looks almost exactly like Terraria, (except no autotiling yet), very nice weapons, secondly, yeah, a little too much like Terraria and unoriginal as you said, I am trying to come up with ideas for you

Gravity flipping as @Yhac10 suggested is a great idea.

Maybe make it so you can go to space!

That’s in Worlda! kind of

Also, this is reminding me of when I began Worlda back in March!

Quote from me:

I SWEAR i was going to say that but thought too far-fetched. :alien_monster: Alian battles

it is?!

Yeah lava slime honey monsters.

Also, ‘Voyager’ implies ships, water, or space. or spaceships, so if you took up my idea you could have space and craftable spaceships, or an ocean and craftable pirate ships out of wood blocks. Just a suggestion!

Just don’t make it about a bear and bees haha (not like you will)

Isn’t that the Terraria font? looks almost exactly like it… sorry i’ve been too busy to help with finding a font

Also, procedural generation is looking great, forgot to say, looks like you tweaked it very well.

Also to make things interesting, automation would be insane, like different materials you need to grind, extract, to make something else. So you need that machine and need to connect it to a power source, like you mine something glowy and pop it in something connected idk.
A machine that maybe heals instead of a anvil would make it allot more unique.

(That is if you want to use automation)

Like crow said as well, the name is voyager so it doesn’t match with it, but im just throwing the first ideas that pop into my head!

but then again, spaceships :rocket:

Yeah automation! can i use these ideas for Worlda as well?

Its on- Worlda vs Voyager! Worlda got a head start but can Voyager make the ultimate comeback!? Be sure to tune in on both topics to see whose making the more players and progress!

(ofc you can use it lol why r u asking me)

Maybe an idea would be having to prepare for an event in a certain amount of time, like how in Pikmin, you have to collect all the parts of your broken ship before 30 days, and if you don’t you die (pretty much). Maybe make it where you have to prepare and collect resources for some alien/mystic being/ whatever to save your world.

That being said, I could see how that could limit how you play the game, with you basically being forced to collect resources instead of doing other things like building, exploring, etc. On the other hand, you could also twist this into a message of Enjoying your life, even in the face of disaster, or something like that, I dunno.

Bro this is NOT a competion at all. Let’s not compare Worlda and Voyager, they are different ideas on different paths, mine is on Steam, DesmonDev is up to what he wants to do with his game Voyager. Please don’t make this a competition

Also DesmonDev literally just started, Worlda has been in progress for over six months

Thank you so so very much for the attention and ideas guys!

@Crowbar_Coder

Youre entirely right, its just the terraria font but more ugly. I had absolutely no idea has i didnt have the terraria font open as a reference. Whoops…I’ll find another later!

Lol…Theres a splash text about that.

Very cool interesting idea, and everyone is right, im not sure how i will do that… But its a good idea! I actually really wanted an underworld like in terraria, however i expect it to be much much different. More dark, scary, and gray. Perhaps this could be the core youre talking about?

I plan to name that the Underside, however, it was originally named the Otherside, which could be the name of the other side of the world!

Right…space… Actually, terraria does have space i once found out like 7 years ago by building a very tall pillar. I just dont think they did very much with it.

Great Ideas! that would be pretty original i think!

Today i learned my worlds are microscopic

are those your worlds? that looks crazy good. OH no that is Terraria, I see, I see.

i am in the middle, i shouldve said
im gonna experiment with something… maybe 3 chunks?

Is the blue rectangle in the middle your world?

Yes it is

Above 1024x1024 blocks starts to really lag.
i hope this lag is fixed when hiding it

This is me asking you about Worlda half a year ago!

Hiding will help a very little bit, hardly anything. For it to help you have to delete the blocks out of sight if you want much bigger world.
