Since 2008 when I went to university with the purpose of learning how to make games, I never been so animated to make games!
I’m programmer but I lost the desire of spend my time on working like that and since then I was just running from here to there without any emotion on making something.
So, this month I decided to make different: I searched about to use a ready engine and see what happens, and… I’M TRULY happy of have found GDevelop!
Man, I’am 37 now and never I felt so happy just to make a single sprite move on screen! It’s like I was letting myself on the past and lost the joy of gamedev.
To you have a idea, I have created a game engine 2d made with SDL2+C++17, but as said, I stayed lost just making engine and engines and engines (tsc), but what is my truly passion is just to make the game born.
So, I want to share this as a grattitude to all gdevelop team for your incredible work with gdevelop! You are good people who makes difference on the world!
Thank you all a lot!
NOTE:
–And some time on future, I will contribute with code too.
–sorry for some gramatical errors, English is not my main language.
I’m 39, I work as a software engineer in a big corporation… and still want to fulfill my childhood dream of making games.
I don’t want to use Unreal or Unity, they’re too bloated for my taste. I already have a couple of small games made in GDevelop on itch.io, but I’d like to make a bit more serious game, maybe even put it on Steam… but before that I wanna make some reusable systems, you can check my profile here on forum to see a couple of extensions I made for GDevelop.
Hopefully one day I’ll find someone who, unlike me, is talented for visual stuff, and we could work on a game together.
Hi, cpusam that’s an interesting story, thanks for sharing. You had the coding knowledge to make a game engine so that you could make games. But you kept making more engines! Did you keep making more engines because they didn’t do what you needed/weren’t ‘perfect’ enough? Did you ever use any of them to (start) making a game? Anyway, that’s great that you’re here now, welcome.
First, welcome on this forum which is friendly.
I understand well what you said: there is a great difference between create application or games for business at work and make them for hobby. It’s the day and the night!
Hi @cpusam - Welcome to the forum. You’ll find plenty of like minded helpful folk on here! Of all ages, backgrounds! Glad to hear that you’ve found an engine to inspire you!
Hello and welcome @cpusam !!! im glad you made it to the shores of the best game engine in the world!!! (@ least in my opinion lol)
btw everybody is friendly here so feel free to ask questions about your game creation!
What do you mean by saying 'too bloated"?
I assume you want to mean that these 2 software packages are more medium and large project oriented. They are also less friendly to begin to learn to create games.
Hi! I was making engines just to be a better programmer, but in the end, this makes me blind about my true will it’s only make games. In the end, make engines turn me on an addictiv way and not in a good way, but with gdevelop, I see what I always wanted is to make and finish games, just not “how it works”.
Thanks!
Thanks man!
I will see your works with gdevelop, and it’s good to see professionals working with it!
And I’m in some way like you with the artist case hahaha But, I’m thinking at take some art course just to learn how to draw something a little less bad.
For the art of my current game made with gdevelop, I’m using edited images, I want to show my game maybe at the next month.
Yeah, man, the difference is really big, and in my case, the gdevelop makes me full filled with joy of just make games, I felt like child exploring the world.
My current job at the moment is as teacher, I’ve abandoned the work as dev because of burnout. So, I’ve worked as particular teacher of programming and math. That not giving me more money than dev but the feeling is so far strongest than as programmer.
