Idk if this is allowed or it will work but i have thought of another way to collaborate!
All you have to do is make an account to share with another person!
Yea you cant live collaborate but u still can contact on somtin else (incase of miss communication) and im pretty sure it will work no?
Then all u have to do is show both of the players usernames in credits or main menu! like if i made a game with snowy, then the account name would be : SnowyRawrGamer & zGameCreator!
So whaddaya think?
(is this allowed and do u think it will work?)
edit - you can only do it if u save the project to the cloudâŚ
Technically it could work, but itâs prone for one of the âownersâ to change the password and lock you out of the account, Especially if that person is a stranger.
Another point is that some people (like myself*) save their projects to their desktop instead of GDevelop cloud.
hmm i was afraid of that, so perhaps you should only do it with people you trust?
For example of i would choose ppl from the forum i know the most it would be MrMen, snowy, and petlimpet. maybe you (@Yhac10) or amigo, & perhaps bubble.
OHHhhhhhhhhh i never thought of that.
yea i also save it in my desktop not in cloud. i guess the only way is too do it is in cloud.
Itâs a nice idea âŚbit if you use github desktop - then thereâs no chance of over writing what someone else does because you create new branches of the project
You could also theoretically make a shared account of a cloud service where you both have access to the files. Also for some services, like the one I use (MEGA) you get a decryption key which allows you to access the files, even if you donât have the password or use 2FA.
To be honest, if you are collaborating on ANY platform, there will be some inherent risk. I guess you just need to trust others
Edit: The way I said that sounds offensive, so in the case that someone takes this the wrong way, let me rephrase.
If you are collaborating with someone, there isnât really a way to do it without risk. If someone has access to your project, itâs up to them to decide what they do with it. Backups can remove some of the risk, but risk can never be 100% removed
I thought of this idea a few weeks ago and actually looked in the terms of service and didnât find any rule against it. I assume you mean creating a second account and sharing that with someone. Once you finished, you could then put the project into your own account so that it has your proper GD account name. If you make copies of the cloud project to your computer then even if things did go wrong, youâd have a back up. Each time you worked on the cloud version, you could put a comment on the top saying âIâm working on it right nowâ. Then when you leave you would disable the comment. Stuff like that would help keep track of whoâs working on it when.
I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!
What if we made like a Community Game where we choose like 5 trusted people from the forum and we all share an account and make a game together!
Yes, but some people (like myself) prefer desktop saves. They are just easier to manage, can be used offline, and no chance of them accidentally getting deleted by cloud data (which Iâve seen happen before for some people)
About the collab game,
Who all would want to participate?
What would it be about?
Are we actually going to make it? If so, I can create a message chat on the forum.
Wdym via post? Github?
Also, we can put a comment on the main screen that says âSnowyRawrGamer: Offline, Petlimpet: Working on the game ZGameCreator: Waiting for petlimpetâ
Wait, that wouldnât work because of saves
I guess we would just have to send a message in the forum chat then saying âI am working on it!â
Edit: Petlimpet, I invited you to the message chat! If you want to chat more about it, feel free!
