Anyone else feeling ripped off by Gdevelop's AI? (or using it at all)

Since i’m still learning the engine, I decided to pay for one of the premium memberships to get some Ai credits. It’s been a few days using the built in AI. Sometimes it’s helpful, But it also feels very scammy as it makes you verify multiple times to build something and you get charged tokens every time you respond anything even a “yes” that is required to start building after you already said to start.

Moreover i just spent over 100 tokens trying to have it build an even in a specific external event sheet, which it said multiple time it did, but obviously did not. I still payed for each one. Mix that with Gdevelop being kind of impossible to contact not sure wht to think. Has anyone had experience with the AI?

ye I gotta say I barely use its ai and i just prefer using the forums for help or using Gemini for help

but I almost never used gemini

Yeah I get that, Just figured since its tied directly to their documentation it would be seemless

sometimes i think its just noise and not ai

For myself, I have not seen much reason to use it, mainly due to GDevelop being easy enough to use already. I personally would rather they focus their dev time elsewhere and not have the engine be an “AI-Powered” labelled one.

Also, do use Google’s Search AI, as it can quickly pull information from the GDevelop’s online manual for any references I need. It’s also quicker and cites pages and highlights the information it grabs, and it’s the main part, it’s free and a simple google search.

I suspect it’s maybe an investor thing, or to bring more people into the engine and perhaps the education side for schools ect use it a lot? Feel like younger generations can easily be pulled into it during their education, using AI along their learning.

Interesting topic though!

AI in general is scuffed, even when using legit AIs like ChatGPT or Grok, they struggle to get some basic things. But even then ChatGPT seems to actually understand GDevelop’s functionality and is pretty useful for pointing out errors I missed, but in general I would never rely on AI to do coding, it doesn’t seem to have the nuance or intelligence for that.

Grok? YOU THINK GROK IS A LEGIT AI? at least just say gemini or something man you shouldnt even be allowed to talk about grok here :broken_heart:

I don’t use Grok, I was just listing random examples of what people are probably using. Ironically when I did use it it seemed pretty bad compared to GPT so you’re probably right

grok has done things that i cannot tell you here

Yeah I know what you mean, I’m def against generative ai for art and such. Even though Gdevelop is easy, starting from zero with no knowlege of game dev at all, it was still a struggle just figuring out all the things that are in the software that i didnt know to look for! I guess i’m finding it somewhat helpful as an automated way to scrub the whole instruction manual at once. especially since most of Gdevelop’s videos seem really baby level.

But I totally agree theres features i’d love to see more than focus on Ai (Usable layer interface lol)

ye my cousin is using ai to make his games for him and all he does is “hey chatgpt make me gta 6 in unreal engine and generate me 3d models for it”

I suggest keeling the game creation entirely to yourself, 2 reasons.

1 it will be better for you to depend on from your experience and knowledge you gotten along the way.

2 it’s just are you willing to spend lots of money? Cuz the AI will misunderstand you here and then. That will require you to request more and more prompt meaning you’ll need more credits, and also you gain no knowledge from it other than quick fix.

I strongly recommend people to use AI as a helper and not the whole boss who’s making the game but rather you should be the one making the game and the AI there to help you through the way and give you simpler ways to excute your goal.

Agreed, but it did get tempting after it lays out steps for some non essential game juice stuff, just to type build and have it in the game. I do think that its been somewhat helpful, even when wrong for showing me conditions and actions i didn’t know existed. Once again especially because all of Gdev’s official tutorials are so baby level.

Mixing in AI is great. Keep in mind AI is just another tech stack and the tool user is the key. Just like it is the programmer and not the language that creates great software.
