Developer Bio - soulmoth - Nice to meet you!

Hello everyone, I’m soulmoth. I’ve started using the GDevelop 5 engine about 3 months ago from today and I have been loving the engine and my experience so far, and this drove me to try and get into the community a bit more. So here I am! To share a little about me;

  • I started game development as a hobby 5 years ago, starting with the engine Construct 3 that I used for a year on my first game project that I was using to learn in. Later, I moved to RPG Maker and worked in all versions from 2003 to MZ for years, creating and scrapping projects as my skills and knowledge grew. After growing tired of RPG Maker and missing the universal and unlimited creative capabilities, I found out about GDevelop 5 while looking for free alternatives to Construct 3. I was so happy to find that they are quite similar and it was easier for me to jump right in to GDevelop because of my prior full year experience with Construct 3.
  • I have a diverse set of talents: 25 years of art experience in drawing both traditional and digital graphic mediums, strong creative writing and story telling experience from both college courses as well as personal creations, music (playing instruments, composing and writing song lyrics) and digital audio software
  • My favorite genre of video games are RPG games, and that is what I am most enthusiastic to make. I grew up on the greatest hits like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, The Legend Of Zelda, and more. An RPG I take most inspiration from is The Elder Scrolls series with it’s demonstration on giving the player to ability to create themselves and interact with the world as they like.

At the moment I have two active game projects in two engines; RPG Maker 2003 and GDevelop 5:

Project #1:
(JRPG) - Heaven’s Stone Ring - RPGM2K3 - On a dying planet caught in the crossfire of interplanetary war is destined to become what we know now as the asteroid belt, characters in this world fight to save themselves before it’s inevitable destruction. Mera Kai, a hermaphrodite humanoid genetically engineered with the DNA of several fantasy races in this universe, was created for the specific goal of ending the war as a super-soldier. Despite the sci-fi sounding themes, this game is actually medieval high fantasy in an anime style. This game has been in development for about 6 months and ongoing with lower priority.

The main cast artwork is done by me:

Project #2
(Choose your own adventure, Interactive fiction, Text-driven with minimal visual graphics, Sandbox, RPG) - Lucid Aphantasia: CHRYSALIS - GDevelop 5 - In this game you create your own character and write your own story through the interactions and choices you make. Inspired by high fantasy Isekai, Lit RPG’s and VRMMO genre themes, you will build your own strengths, lifestyle, relationships, and travel a vast new world after being reborn by the Goddess of Rebirth, Victoria. The game focuses on deep character creation/customization and player agency (choices). This game is my first project in GDevelop and has been in development for exactly 3 months at the time of posting. While the game is text-driven, it contains unique and strong visual elements to aid the feel and experience. The GUI is made by myself in Inkscape and is inspired by old 2000’s RPG’s and MMORPG’s. While text-driven, I do plan to include my illustrations of monsters and characters.

If interested more in my games, I will create a thread devlog on my GDevelop project but for anything related to the RPG Maker game, please visit my itch io page where you can play the game in the web browser and also view the devlog posts made for that game there.

If you would like to contact me for any reason, feel free to send a message only if you are over 18 years of age, otherwise it will be ignored.

Thank you for reading!
