Hi everyone,
I’m working on a GDevelop project where I’ve embedded YouTube videos into my HTML5 game (using the built-in web embed / iframe approach). Everything works fine so far, but I’m trying to understand how YouTube Premium might affect this setup.
If a player has YouTube Premium, will that change anything inside my game (like removing ads, altering playback behavior, or affecting API responses)? Or does the embedded player behave exactly the same regardless of whether the user has Premium or not?
Also, from a development/testing point of view, is there any difference I should be aware of when previewing or publishing games that use YouTube content?
I just want to make sure I’m using the right approach and not running into unexpected behavior later when the game is shared with users.
Thanks in advance!
Hey, just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone has tested it or has some insight
While digging around a bit more, I found mixed info about how YouTube Premium actually behaves with embedded players. From what I understand so far, most of the Premium benefits (like ad-free viewing) seem to apply mainly to the user’s account in the main app or browser, but I’m still not 100% sure how consistently that carries over into iframe embeds inside something like a GDevelop HTML5 game.
I also came across mentions of “YouTube Premium APK” alternative versions from ytmodz that claim to offer similar ad-free playback without a subscription. Not sure how those interact with embedded videos either—or if they even affect iframe playback at all—so that adds another layer of confusion from a testing perspective.
From a dev point of view, I’m mainly trying to figure out if I should expect any differences in:
- ad behavior inside embeds
- playback restrictions or API responses
- user experience variations depending on account type
If anyone here has experimented with embedding YouTube videos in games or web apps and noticed differences between regular users, Premium users, or even those using modified APKs, I’d really appreciate your input.
