Education Subscription Questions

Hi all,

I’m looking at purchasing the Education Licence for my year 10 class (15-16 year olds) and have some questions. Would hugely appreciate any assistance.

  1. What sort of time is needed to get students confidently working in GDevelop? I have 10-12 weeks left in my game design unit, about 25 one-hour lessons total (though some of these will be allocated to other things). Is it realistic that in that time they could independently make, for example, a level of a simple platform game of their own design?

  2. The Wiki says that when the course is over, teachers archive the student accounts and students lose access to their projects. I don’t want students to lose access to all their hard work. Can they make copies of their games/projects and move them to a personal account?

  3. This isn’t a question, but feedback for the education/sales team: why isn’t there a way for me to email you these questions? All I can do is book a call - which would fall between midnight and 7:30am local time. Please think of your non-Northern Hemisphere-based potential customers.

Thanks again for any help!

Hi! Thank you for getting in touch regarding GDevelop for Education! I’m Marcos, the Educational Liaison here at GDevelop.

I’d be happy to answer your questions.

  1. If they are using GDevelop for Education, they will be working confidently at making a game within 1-2 hours at most. However, this is following the provided curriculum. In order to make something of their own design, they will need to proceed further in the lessons. Having said that, yes, 25 hours is enough to get there, particularly with such a cohort.
  2. Yes, we don’t paywall student projects. Students are able to download their projects and continue working on them on their own accounts.
  3. Thank you for the feedback! We’ll incorporate a way to display email contact information. However, if you were to choose to book a meeting, you get access to my personal email that way, and you can ask the questions in the pre-meeting form provided. I know this isn’t optimal, however, so we’ll see what we can do to provide a better contact workflow. Thank you!

The reason the meeting is the primary means of contact is because there’s a lot of information about GDevelop for Education we can’t cover/convey on a page or email, so it’s usually best to have a one-on-one if possible. But I understand this may not be suitable for everyone’s timeframe. Thanks for bringing it up.

Hi Marcos,

Thanks for your response, and for taking the feedback onboard.

It looks like GDevelop will be ideal for my needs! I’ll put a purchase request in to my supervisor.

Many thanks.

That sounds great! While we implement the new workflow, please feel free to ask any further questions by following the meeting scheduling process. That goes straight to my inbox.
