I still get lots of games that are very popular on Steam or elsewhere that don’t display every control on screen. For an older/(at least) slightly challenged person as myself, this makes quick immersion almost impossible. Show your game controls based on the input method! You will help a senior person (and perhaps an un-senior one!).
I understand, ill take this as advice for what im working on right now. Thank you
Well agree with you Morgan.
It’s why in my games, i make it an obligation to do so.

What do you mean by that? Character game controls? Short-cuts? Controls for specific actions in the game?
imo, the best way to do it is how hollow knight introduced controls.
that is…? ive never played hollow knight
Some games still dont have full key mapping. And some that do only have 1 set or they dont have a reset button.
I mouse with left hand so every game I have to completely remap. But if I have a visitor and lets use project zomboid, it has 1 keymaps, no profile saves. So if my friend is a righty and I am a lefty. Every time its reset I have to re map every key cause i am a lefty.
it is all over steam like this. even on big indy titles. plus so many indy’s skip controller. I am a keyboard and mouse guy but they need to be giving people options
It means, whatever your controls are for the control type - show em! On any gamepad button pressed - show gamepad controls. On any key pressed, show keyboard controls.
But you wouldn’t want that on every single keystroke all the time, right? But rather for the first minute of play or within the first 500 pixels of the starting position.
I guess it could be prohibitive for a game with dozens of buttons/keys but mine usually have only a handful.
they slap the info in front of you with overlayed text
