Gdevelop Review

So I’ve used Gdevelop for about 2 months and well i need to put a review of course. So I rate this a solid 7/10 before the 3d editor update but now its a 8/10. So lets talk about the advantages what it does better than scratch. The first one is that its VERY easy to use like seriously I can make a game and be dum at the same time. I just fill in some stuff and you got a professional level looking game. The second thing is that it has Javascript which makes it even more powerful. Also You can make your own extension and behaviors which is straight up OP but you need skill. Another thing is that i just drag and drop and if i wanna put the player somewhere else then i can just drag it but in scratch i have to code it and also the animation thing is so easy but in scratch i have to code and i had to watch 3 tutorials to do that. Gdevelop just makes things way easier but scratch is kinda hard also its easy to export games in gdevelop to other platform however in scratch i have to use a packager and also if your game is too big in scratch it lags like S*it and gdevelop handles that and they rest are self explanitory. Okay lets talk about gdevelop disadvantages. Number 1 No sort of lightning feature and it lack with 3d features and also theres no 3d editor. Also No vector editor and collaboration is locked behind paywall and there is ai that maybe makes the software heavier and paywalls and yeah and no advanced 3d features and also i need internet to use the desktop version and i cant save it on the web version and yeah it is a 8/10 and scratch is 4/10

Personally, here are my thoughts on what you said were disadvantages:

  1. Collaboration: It isn’t locked behind a paywall, lots of people collab with Github (which is free) or other methods. Even GDevelop themselves recommends Github as a free way to collab. The in-editor collaboration is still a WIP.
  2. AI: The AI isn’t bad, but if it gets too advanced and can create whole games, that’s when we’ll see some people getting mad about it.
  3. Can’t save it on the web version: Overall, the web version is just a worse version of the desktop. I personally just use the desktop as much as possible

Overall, we both agree that GDevelop is a great game engine, though my rating of it would be closer to 9/10 then 8/10

True, nothing is perfect.

Do you mean to be logged in? Yes, I find that a bit annoying if I want to work offline but then I’m not logged in. But I don’t have any trouble saving etc offline.
