Hi devs I’m Phoenix_01. Really excited to be here. I’m new to this forum but not to Gdevelop game engine. I’ve been making some games for the past year. Mostly just tweaking gd templates haha.
I think gdevelop is quite a ride for devs. And the community here is awesome. Let’s see what Im capable of making.
Hi @Phoenix_01 - Welcome! and all the best in the Jam if you’re taking part! I too set out to make Hollow Knight for my first game, but set in a pub in Leeds. It tripped over a plastic pint glass as it came out of the function room, and ended up in a heap at the bottom of the pub stairs on a paisley carpet.
Hey @petlimpet I mean it’s not wrong to dream. But Hollow Knight is a bit outta my league for now. Making games is fun only if you can finish them. Thanks for your comment
Welcome to GDevelop Phoenix_01!
Hopefully your time here on the forums is great!
Everyone here is so nice and helpful! Let us know if you ever need anything
Just wondering something, (I’m obsessed with making GDevelop templates at the moment), what templates did you try out and enjoy? Which ones did you try but not enjoy? Did you pay for any?
Sorry for all the questions off the bat!
No it’s ok. I mostly obsessed over platformer templates at first then quickly gave up. I tried the Tappy Plane cause it’s easier for beginners but not suitable long-term .
Then I moved to mini game templates like Plinko and Spherez. I didn’t like either of them much cause for me there were limitations to how far I could customize.
I especially loved experimenting with Isometric templates but I never thought of creating a full fledged game. I found 3D styles a bit complicated for my level but I’ll create a horror game soon.
As for paid templates, I did buy the 3 match one which I’m still working on. If you want to create more templates I would absolutely love to try them. Maybe more casual style game templates.
I still haven’t found a first shooter style template I like. What type of templates are you into?
Hey! Glad you bought the Match 3 Template! It’s made by a guy named Vegetato, probably the best template creator out there! (I’m second best!) Currently, I’m into Cozy or Idle Games, which I why I’ve mostly created cozy templates. I do have a Snowy’s GDevelop Templates (MegaThread) that lists the templates I’ve made.
(Psst! If you find one you like, I might be able to send a free copy!)
Edit: I also haven’t gotten into 3d games in GDevelop yet. I prefer 2d games since they are easier to manage, but the closest I’ve gotten to a 3d game in GDevelop would be my House Designer Template which is 2d-3d.
I just played the Duck Game and it’s still pretty impressive how you managed to take an idea (platformers) and create your unique spin. I had to take a moment to figure out the controls but honestly that mini challenge makes it pop a bit.
Reminds me of how artwork makes game stand out. Like those games I played on my old computer. I’ll definitely finish all the worlds.
Welcome @Phoenix_01!
I too have been developing in GDev for a bit too, but much less than you. I’m not aiming for a Hollow Knight-style platformer, instead I am aiming to recreate a shut-down Roblox game called Rooms: Low Detailed (in top-down perspective, because I suck at 3d).
Ahh why dream small!! The hollow knight thing was a reference to your other thread really. Finishing a game? there’s no fun to be had in those waters…
im sure you’ve all seen this one … How To Never Finish Your Indie Game - YouTube
Yeah but I’m a very weird perfectionist. Making games and testing new mechanics is fun and all but…if I don’t finish a game…Ill feel sorta guilty about it
As a matter of fact, I can let you guys test what I actually have made so far. It’s not much, but it is a good start so far. The fonts are “Determination Mono” and “Determination Sans” (or is one of these 8-Bit Operator JVE? I can’t tell, these are the file names that were given to the fonts I got)
I’m gonna add the entities from the game as accurately as possible so no pixelart or lo-fi, maybe for my own rooms fan game (coming out after r:ld). note it is VERY unfinished
Thanks for complimenting the menu, I like tweens… a bit
