How can I get plays?

How can I easily get more plays on my game without buying coin to promote it? I’ve done promoting without paying before on my game and that got it to 600+ plays but now it’s started to slow down and I’m just wondering how to get more.

You can’t control whether poeple walhat to play your game or not it’s part of game development is popular poeple like your game it’s is more likely to get more plays so until then I would try to get someone popular to play your game if you want more playes

Promoting your game where the gamers for your kind of game actually are (gamer forums, related reddit communities etc.). I see a lot of developers promoting their games to other developers - like in this forum. Most users here - including me - are certainly interested in the games other developers make with Gdevelop, but I doubt that most of them are your actual audience.

I really agree with Drona about promoting your game to the right audience. For example I’m not interested in games at all. I’ve never played them in the traditional sense, ie “as the developer intended”. Games were always just a puzzle to me, to see how many exploits and bugs I could uncover, and when I had found everything I could it was “game over” and I would move on to the next one. The whole point of any game to me is the challenge of finding built in flaws. Games don’t interest me otherwise.

I see games put up in this forum and I try to play at least once for support but…I’m not the target audience. I just don’t play games in that way.

I notice one thing a lot of developers do is start social media stuff, like Drona mentioned gamer forums, reddit communities, youtube channels. Stuff like that.

Also never waste a chance to promote your game. Like here in your first post, go edit it to insert a link to your game. Say I had been interested in seeing what game you were talking about that you wanted more plays for, I can’t click a link to see because it’s not there.

You should build your presence right from the start. If you’re building a game, announce it. Tell people about it. Make devlogs, posts, etc. Share it wherever you can. Make your game fun. Find playtesters and get feedback. When your games at least look fun, people will be interested. That involves good visuals, music, mechanics, etc. as well as good presentation.

You’ll need to remember one thing. Your target audience shouldn’t be developers, they should be gamers.

I’ve done a lot of those things, like making devlogs and posts. I’ve just had a hard time sharing it places and finding playtesters, especially in finding feedback.

I think advertising with paid ads on social media is your best solution. Or maybe create short videos that showcase the fun parts of the gameplay.

Also share it on Reddit, and upload it on Itch.io

Personally I think that a good game with some luck will manage to get traction.
The hardest thing is to keep the players attention.
First impression in the most important thing.

Now this may sound a bit harsh and I don’t want you to give up because of it.
I tried to play your game but honestly the Ai artwork at the beginning and the junky slow interface with the big white letters are honestly a big turn off for me. Also I wouldn’t want to play a game that forces me to create an account before I could even try it. There should be a tutorial, or an introduction the moment you open the game for the first time.

Props to you for trying to create a multiplayer game. It really ain’t easy. But to keep an active player base you need to have a really polished fun game.

Good thing is that now that you have the basics down, you can create a new more polished version of it.

Perfect the gameplay, juice it up and study the Interface of other similar games. Copying ideas and designs isn’t that bad if you can learn from them or even make them better.

There are a lot of tutorials online and in Gdevelop’s Youtube channel that can show you how to level up your game.

I think that you should focus on perfecting the gameplay first.
Create a single player game with the same concept but make it fun.
A lot of times, graphics don’t matter if the game is fun. Play the games that inspired you to create this kind of game and ask yourself, why do I like them so much? What do I want to take from them and add to my game?

Once you have perfected your single player game you can focus on the multiplayer part more.

The Gdevelop community is also always here if you want opinions or help.

Thanks for the help! I’ve been getting a lot of feedback about the game, UI and music and most likely everything, including gameplay will be updated and polished by the time Season 2 comes out.

By graphics, what do you mean? Do you mean, the backgrounds on the different stages and in the Menus or like the in-game character sprites, or something else entirely? I was just wondering, because I want to know what I need to fix before I start fixing everything.

Try reworking the player sprites and the level tile sprites, right now they look a little bland. Although, what software you use for art is a factor you should consider. So, what software do you use?

Also, general tip, make sure the background fits the level tiles.

I use Piskel, I don’t really know any other pixel art makers.

Maybe try Aseprite. You don’t have to buy it, instead you can build it for free. If you can’t do that, than Libresprite is the next best option. TBH, piskel isn’t really that good of a tool for pixel art, unless it’s minor corrections or adjustments you’re doing to a sprite.
