Quick question. Can I make a game for a game jam early or I have to make my game once the jam starts?

Each Jam will have different rules but most common is to make the game once the Jam starts. Check your jam rules and if it’s unclear there should also be a place of who to contact with questions about the jam and also there should be a way you can create a community topic about it if it’s on itch.

Like @Lucky-j said, it depends on the rules of the jam. Although most of the time, you can only make a game within the jam upload period. There are obviously exceptions, however.

The reason why I’m asking this is because the Kenney Jam 2025 starts at July 18, 2025, and ends on July 20, 2025, but all it said was that I can submit my game once the jam starts, and I’m a little confused by this.

Yeah most game jams don’t allow previous projects but some do. Like I have seen some that allow only specific art assets, or no outside help other than what is able to be created during the jam. Makes it easy to be on the same playing field as others if everyone starts at the same time, at least in my opinion. But read your game jam rules, they should have stated it.
Never mind. It turns out the Kenney Jam 2025 starts at July 18, 2025, so that I can create my game till then. Thx for replying, though!
