It’s not really a tutorial, more like a rant with some honest thoughts on each platform. I’ve been using GDevelop for a couple years now and figured it might help new folks figure out where to ask for help or show off their stuff
I realized this is the only place I haven’t posted yet, so I wanted to share this here too.
My video was about the issues I’ve noticed and the positives in each part of the GDevelop community — Reddit, Discord, and the forums. It wasn’t meant to attack new devs or anyone personally. It was more of a critique of how the community works overall.
I know some people were upset, especially about the part where I said I hate mods. That line was mostly a joke, but I understand why it rubbed people the wrong way. Still, I feel like that one comment caused some viewers to completely dismiss the actual points I was trying to make.
I probably came off like an edgelord or like I wasn’t being serious because I swear a lot — and yeah, that’s fair. But that doesn’t mean the points I raised aren’t valid.
One comment that stuck with me said:
“I stopped watching when you started ragging on games people make. Not everyone has experience. Simple games can still be good, and people are just learning.”
And honestly, I agree with that last part: “Simple games can still be good, and people are just learning.” I’m not trying to tear down beginner devs or say that simple games are bad. My point was more about how some really polished, creative projects often go unnoticed, while other, much simpler ones get a lot of attention just for existing. That imbalance can be frustrating — and I probably should’ve made that point clearer in the video.
I didn’t have proof for everything I brought up, but I did include screenshots where I could. And the “rat fart” joke wasn’t the focus — it was just a throwaway line. What I really want people to think about is how we treat effort, feedback, and quality across the whole community.
