I was interested (3D Minecraft in gdevelop)

I saw a lot of people trying to make Minecraft in Gdevelop, i was interested with this idea but i wanted to take a more “straight” forward approach and port as much of Minecraft to Gdevelop as i can.

I’ve already got some experience with porting small parts of Minecraft to Gdevelop when i ported the credits too

wish me luck!

who tf tryna like this in 2026?
fine, i guess ill just have to keep working on it

um, is this legal… Minecraft is copyrighted you know. Porting it to Gdevelop would be copyright-infringement. Only if you create your own minecraft-style project from scratch in Gdevelop would it be legal (and again, without using any minecraft logo or assets)

Unless, of course, you don’t have the game online anywhere, just for yourself to play around with, I believe.

just warning you, just in case you hadnt realised

  1. it is legal to present this recreation to you without a download
  2. what most people do, such as the developers of CavEX, simply replace the texture pack upon release.

Yeah true, though the code used, you can’t use that either you know if you do release it.
but as long as you dont release it, perfectly fine

what do you mean code used? dont be silly

The idea is porting minecraft to Gdevelop, right? You can’t just take the code and put it in gdevelop because its someone else’s creation, only for personal use. Only Mojang would have the rights to do that legally.

…i mean this in the nicest way, i dont think you know how programming works.

Minecraft java edition is programmed in java, gdevelop is programmed in javaSCRIPT, and the events system uses javascript. Maybe youre confusing the two… But each of these languages have entirely different approaches and dont even work together. So even if copyright carried through logic and not text content, it would be a original creation. Its actually a common tactic that was used against the people who made claude. Code leaked from them, and so to preserve it, they converted it into python.

Ah, that makes sense. I did know Minecraft was java and not javascript, but how would you port it then? Reprogram it entirely?

yes, but think about it.

The code to calculate 1+1 in java and 1+1 in javascript is totally different, but you can get the exact same result. Thats what porting is
