L.A: CHRYSALIS - A GDevelop Game Project Devlog

This post is the start of my devlog for my GDevelop 5 RPG project, Lucid Aphantasia: CHRYSALIS. The game project has already been in development for 3 entire months from the time of this first post. Originally my first GDevelop project to teach myself to learn the engine, I began to sculpt it into a game that I’ve always wanted to make, starting with creating several systems and mechanics needed for a complete RPG game. The systems created were later reworked to become a universal framework so that I can continue making RPG games with this project as a template. The systems designed so far are:

  • Inventory (4 compartments with 9 slots each that can contain multiple quantities)
  • Shops (can select quantities of items to purchase all at once)
  • Equipment (able to equip weapons and gain stat benefits. Weapons have wield styles such as one handed, two-handed, and dual-wield.)
  • Turn-based Combat with unique battle mechanics
  • Spells & Skills (in progress, 50%)
  • Navigation (via point & click on the map)
  • Character Creation (from gender to full appearance details that NPC’s recognize and reference)
  • Viewable World Map
  • Dating Sim & Relationship Dispositions (in progress)
  • Quest Logs (in progress)
  • Auto-filled Player Biography (a synopsis of the player’s choices and specific interactions in the world and it’s people) - (in progress)

About the Game:
The setting and theme of this game is inspired by high fantasy isekai, Lit RPG’s, and old 2000’s game aesthetic. As I have always wanted a game where I can be isekai’d into a new world and play as myself instead of some preset character, I decided to make this dream come true with this game project. The game does have its own deep lore, world building, and story content- however it does not force you to follow a main storyline, and there is no obvious ‘handholding’ or ‘yellow paint’ to guide you.

After being resurrected by the Goddess of Rebirth, Victoria, you will travel the world in your new body after leaving the Hall of Rebirth- a place that you not only start in but will visit again when you are defeated and respawn. There are five fantasy races in this world:

Felyn: Basically humanoid cat-people.
Aelfeyn: Basically point eared elf people.

Faeryn: Basically human-sized fairy people.

Draggyn: Basically humanoid dragon-like people.

Humyn: Basically human-like people people.
