My installation Gdevelop5 is lost?

Hello,
I recently relaunched Gdevelop5 on my PC (Win7) after two years.
I was surprised to see the user interface completely changed, and it’s very nice!
I guess a discreet update was done.
I was able to relaunch my projects, in the recent files menu. All fine!

Then, I turned off my computer. The next day, I turned it back on and tried to relaunch the program, and it was nowhere to be found!
The app icon shortcut is a now a placeholder which leads to nowhere anymore…
I investigated all my PC, searching in my program files, no more trace of Gdevelop anywhere
The C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Programs\GDevelop shows an empty folder… :anger:

Does the Gdevelop projects files are located by default in the installation folder? I don’t remmeber saving my projets elsewhere…

I’ve some files related to Gdevelop in my MyDocuments system folder, where all of my assets are properly showns, and there is some *.json files :

  • projectname.json.autosave
  • projectname.json

EDIT: After deeper searches I’ve found a post of a similar issue here on the forum:
https://forum.gdevelop.io/t/gdevelop-disappeared-altogether-from-my-pc/23164

If we shut down the computer very right after quiting Gdevelop, the silent auto update is messed up and installation is totally deleted! Oh my… :fearful:

From here, here my questions:

If do a new installation of Gdevelop5, are these JSON files —remaining in another directory— are the master files of my projects?
Or do I lost for good my saves (which were probably located in the default installation directory) ?

Similar things have happened to me before, trying to open Gdevelop after an update and the program just disappearing. It hasn’t happened to me for a while though.

Try re-installing the program, your projects should still be intact.

Thank you so much,

I have done the installation, and Gdevelop opened on my last project!

I’m so relieved :mending_heart:

Just to clarify
Gdevelop when finds update
Notify you about it and tells you it gonna download it
And then after download is done it notify that installation will be made after you close gdevelop
What its not telling you is that 1st your appdata gdevelop folder will be wiped out (that is the reason why not to put projects inside gdevelop folder)

And sometimes it will just delete all files from that folder but will not install updated version
And you experiencing this situation

Windows 7’s no longer officially supported by MS themselves, you need to upgrade to at least Windows 10.
