Psychedelic Type game I'm making

General warning: Don’t bother playing the game if you suffer from any sort of light sensitivity, you have been warned

I haven’t touched GDevelop in a long time, not since like 3 game jams ago. I’ve honestly had no drive to make anything whatsoever.

What I have been doing is making music. Not to advertising my music, but it’s pretty much all I have been doing in 2026 that’s somewhat productive.

This got me thinking, what if I just make a game that fits my music?

Interesting, what is your strategy?

Update:

Creates 3 tracks for the game, as well as started on figuring out the visuals.

I have a general idea of what the game will feel like and be about, although I do realize most of my games get stale pretty quick since there isn’t anything to do in them except move and jump, so I’ll have to fix that.

I also ported the movement from neo cityscapes because of course I did.

Warning: If you suffer from epilisey than absolutely DO NOT CLICK THE LINK BELOW:

Here’s a small test build of what i’ve done so far

Looks cool!

just a warning

it moves as well

oof, publish this as the videogame as most ‘likely to cause epileptic fits’ in history of video games.

Decided to replace the background texture with the one used for the ground

OH YEAH, YOU WILL DIE IF YOU HAVE EPILISEY AND YOU CLICK THE LINK, MOST LIKELY:

i dont have epilepsy but that is not the only thing that makes you sensitive to flashing lights, so thanks

We just need to “fine‑tune” a few things for this to happen.

I don’t have epilepsy but I can’t play the game, its too much!!!

…exactly!
i get vestibular migraines, which can be triggered by flashing lights.
But being human in general can also cause some discomfort when playing this game

Its also the designer in me reacting in pain

p.s. i feel this is the kind of game that could go viral

actually, as a designer, they did their job incredibly well. ive never seen something so nauseating to look at that isnt even moving. Even staring at a screenshot is much for me

well they got the style across certainly! if that was their intention.

if it was their intention, its super impressive. If it wasnt their intention, is very impressive that it wasnt

looks pyschedelic style

I wanted to showcase my inspirations for the game, mainly to compare what I’ve done to these.

Music wise, there are two main inspirations:

Lone - Ecstacy & Friends

Quasimoto - The Unseen

Despite these albums being nearly complete opposites, both albums are pretty psychedelic in their own way (If i recall correctly, Madlib was actually high when making the beats for the unseen (oh yeah, don’t do drugs kids)). While I do have other inspirations, for now, I’ll use these two as my point of reference.

Game wise, my inspiration would be something along the lines of LSD: Dream Emulator, but since I’ve never played it, I’m basing my work more of B3313, which is an SM64 rom hack based on the whole “every copy of sm64 is personalized” craze that was around like 5 years ago. The best aspect of B33 was the aimlessly wondering around halls aspect, discovering new and weird areas. I wanna see if I can recreate that feeling for this game.

If you guys have any other media that could help inspire this game than feel free to share

Another small test build, i removed the psychedelic effect from the ground sprite, as well as replacing the sprite itself. I also made the background move on it’s own.

Light Sensitivity Warning:

Here’s a city level I made with old assets I made for other games. Reminds me of that “There’s nobody here” youtube video kind off.

(There’s also music in the level, but you have to click and refresh the page after the game loads to hear it)

It looks cool!

but after you walk for a bit you get stuck behind the road so you cant c the player unless u jump.
