Rick Dangerous 1

It comes up in English for me, it looks good. “Stroke with baton” sounds a bit off. I mean strike is hit but stroke sounds more like you are petting the cat.

Yes, you are right but in the original game, it’s like that.
If you have a best english words to describe this Rick’s action, i take.

The principal use of the baton is to stop for a few seconds the ennemies except of course the mummies who are eternal. It is also difficult to do that because you must be very precise to success with this action.

PS : when i test the game, i don’t generally use the Baton except in one place you’ll see toward the end of game (Ryan has found this place)
But there is at this place a bug since some days, i don’t know why: you’ll die because Rick at this point, dont’t horizontally move and an arrow will end Rick.
The game has an another bug: for one or two ladders, if you crouch at the top of these, Rick don’t crouch but descend very fast the ladder.
I think to know why and i’ll look at later.

Your game is fun and challenging. I am terrible at these types of games personally but I had fun playing a little bit of it. I will have to play some more later when I get more time. I did run into a few bugs and I recorded a quick video playing the game if you would like to see it. In the video you can hear the audio bug, but i forgot to record the animation bug I ran into. Its easy to replicate so I will just type it here for you.

Things that I enjoyed

  • I love how the player movement feels, it feels natural moving around and crawling around. I didn’t ever feel like I was fighting with the controls of the player.
  • Ladder movement felt good, and worked well.
  • Traps were fun, and surprising at parts which added some challenge to the game.
  • Music is awesome.
  • SFX sounded good and reminded me of old school arcade games.
  • UI was easy to understand.
  • Transition into the game was nice.
  • Animations were good for the characters.
  • Artwork is really nice and all part of the same theme.

The few bugs I ran into are

  • Audio issues with feet steps and climbing audio. It would continue after dying and not stop.
  • Animation getting stuck when pulling out the baton “B” key, then climbing a ladder, the animation will continue to be the climbing animation and not moving around.

Awesome game, and I am excited to play some more soon! Great job on the game and I will post again when I get further in the game.

I have seen of course your video and i am astonish to see how you progress, try after try. After testing during hours, i know of course all the traps and i proceed in another manner than you but it’s normal.
Ryan, at the beginning of the level when you stand and get up on the little block, you can jump to the left to land on little platform of wood (and not be moveless on this block)

I don’t know how time you played but i find you very good because you go far in the level (almost the end level 2)

For the 2 bugs you found, i know for the first (i tried to correct it but i have no success and i don’t know why: i use different canals for every type of sound evenments) but for the second bug, i ignored.
In the original game, you must wait after giving a baton stroke and normally, you don’t move just after the stroke. Thanks Ryan because you give me the solution (=> Rick must wait a little time after stroke with no possible action of the player)

As i said in precedent post, there are another bugs with Rick deplacements on certain ladders (brutal falls) when you crouch on the top of them.
Other recent bug is when after the stroke of baton, is what i said in the post above: Rick’s horizontal animations don’t work and you must die, killed by an arrow of a snake.

Bug corrected.

Bugs staying: that on sound (randomly) and that on ladders.

Yeah no problem @Amigo54! I will probably play again today. I figured I would record a video of me playing to show you how I attempt the level. It shows you good playtesting data for you!

I’m glad that the video helped you out! I will record again when I play tonight and I will post here when I am done! Game is tough just as you said. Or cause I am very bad at these types of games. Haha

I am going to publish on GD site the updated version ot the game (with corrections said above)
I am very happy and grateful to you for testing my game.
I’s very different when i test by myself and when it’s you (you are able to see things i can’t look)
So, i am going also to add in the right post created by you, the fact that testing is better when it is not the developer who tests his game.
As that, the work in the team always brings something positive.

Yes, it’s very annoying. I wish there was an easy way to push out things like bug fixes.

But you have to publish all your game at the time and not the possibility to export a small part.

I have finish the canvas of RD’s level 1.
Now, it’s time to incorporate all the logic of this level.
