So, not to be that guy, but I spent around a year’s worth of Gold Membership tokens to buy a full week of promotion. I was interested because of the promised high player results, but I was very disappointed to see not even 25% of what was promised was delivered.
On top of that, there was no indication anywhere that if the target goal was not reached, there would be no refund or any extensions. Because of this, I’ve decided to make this post to warn others.
GDevelop is good, but there are a lot of scammy practices going on that get shrugged off by community moderators. I’d also like to point out that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the Discord. Because of one or two salty, jealous people, they’ve made my time in the community harder — it’s gotten so bad that other members have pointed it out as well.
Anyhow, I assume this won’t be resolved, but there’s my warning to you all from someone who has been a paid member for almost a year.
Let us know the game and the boost you purchased so we can help If it’s a super boost or mega boost, then the promotion of your game should in theory never end before it has reached the number of players.
Hey, sorry for the late response. It was either Super Boost or Mega Boost, I’m pretty sure it was Mega Boost, but I don’t want to say for certain in case it was Super Boost. What I do know is it was 100% not the GD Games Boost. If there’s a way to check, I can provide that information to you guys also the game was. Thefter Mayhem Demo, i would link it but it wont let me
Something to note before I forget: before I noticed it was stopped, it said something along the lines of ‘until you reach your goal, we will keep promoting your game’ or something like that. Then it disappeared the next day and got that email
I have just checked the marketing campaigns for the game.
I see that you chose the Super Boost, and therefore had the game on the homepage for 10 days. Since the 10 days have expired, you received the email.
Regarding the 1,000 guaranteed sessions, as you mentioned, you haven’t reached that goal yet, and the system has correctly detected this. That is why the game is still being promoted, but in a different way via ads. This is what you were referring to:
You read this in the panel here, once you clicked on the Super Boost campaign.
(here is a capture from my game for testing the same Super Boost)
The 1,000 sessions are tied to ads, and the 10-day promotion is tied to the homepage and other sections on gd.games. The end of the 10 days does not mean the end of the campaign, and if the game reaches 1,000 sessions before the 10 days are up, that does not mean the promotion on the homepage ends. The two are separate but in the same campaign.
We didn’t include that guarantee sessions are still running via ads in the email, and perhaps we should consider adding it, because clearly the campaign is not completely finished.
Only the 10-day homepage promotion has ended; the promotion of the game continues until you reach the 1,000 sessions we guarantee.
Could you provide a screenshot of the campaign on your game within GDevelop? There might be other visible or missing information that we could improve, in addition to the email.
Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense regarding how the campaign is split between the 10-day homepage boost and the 1,000-session ad goal.
That being said, I think I got confused because the campaign screen still gives me the option to purchase another campaign, which made it seem like the current one had fully ended. Also, the messaging made it feel like everything would stop once the homepage promotion ended, so I wasn’t expecting the ads part to still be running separately.
I do apologise for the misunderstanding — I can see now how it works. I just assumed, based on the previous plays being below even the smallest/cheapest plan, that the promotion might continue longer before ending or prompting a new purchase.
Hopefully you can see where the confusion came from. If possible, clearer wording on the campaign page or email would really help avoid this in future.
I’ll send over a screenshot of the campaign screen as requested.
Thanks again.
