Should I update my Gdevelop (v5.5.245) without affecting my projects?

I am currently working on two major projects. I am using a version before Gdevelop major 3D updates and new events blocks. My main fears are that these new features add a bottleneck to the engine as my pc isn’t exactly modern standards (PC of the 2019 era) and me missing out on the newest features. The projects are both 2D.

But I do know that Gdevelop keeps compatibility very well across versions, but this is an issue of inherited bugs and increased resource usage.

  1. Are there any risks involved?
  2. Is it really needed to update?
  3. Is there any cool feature I’ll miss from my current version upwards?

-custom objects
-save state
-tilemaps
-else else if

All the problems caused by features that are constantly evolving…
it’s up to you, with workarounds, keep your project adaptable until (with a bit of luck) things finally reach stability.

no, if you’re project doesn’t need it.

Seems Else if might push me to upgrade (to remove all those spaghetti code). Thanks.

The 3D features aren’t going to have an impact on editing a 2D game. I think there was a recent update that actually improved editor performance when looking at the scene view, so it sounds like you might benefit from that.

Everything is fine. My project from a year ago is in excellent condition after the update. My computer is 2015 or older and not very powerful.

But a lot of events have been updated.

Try the web version if you can upload your game to the web base. Other than that, aslong the pc is not soo slow and laggy and you use mouse with it, you’ll be good!

just duplicate your projects and test them…
