The Amazing Space Dragons - Open Testing

Hello Dave!

Hence my proposal to try to optimize assets.

I think, without offense anybody, it’s not normal a game takes such a long time to load.

I agree with Amigo and Limpet, it’s really worth looking at your assets for size hogs. Even if the game is targeted towards phones I still think size matters. For someone who is running out of space on their phone and needs to delete things, a 200mb plus game is an easy thing to delete. I played again and it was still a very long loading time. I didn’t realise the first time I played that it auto fires, I was just clicking like crazy. The auto firing is a great idea, it really makes movement strategy more important. I got a high score of 3624 but what are the sheep, if that’s what they are? Is the sheep score for sheep we don’t hit or shoot? I will have a think about a Bubble dragon, thank you.

Okayyy, after optimising, I reduced around 60Mb. Loading should be 25-30% faster than before.

I found this cool application that can do it without changing the folders of your assets. (My older assets are spread in many folders) However, for some reason it takes FOREVER to optimise PNGS. (Meanwhile TinyPng can do it in seconds  )

I’m sure I could optimise it more by reducing the dimensions of my characters, but this will take a while since, by doing so, I will need to change the points and collision mask of every object in the game, so I will avoid it for now as I want to focus on my other games. (This was meant to be an Android game anyway, and there it loads in less than 10 seconds)

Hi @Digitalstickmans!

For your next projects, think about it: optimize your resources automatically.
I systematically do it whatever the engine used.

This is one of the things to think about the start of his project and not in the middle of the latter.

Yeah, actually, for my main game, I have the camera zoomed at like 3-4x and the assets are much, much smaller. (Not sure if this is the best approach) in order to reduce the size.

Still not sure how easily the engine will handle it as I plan to have many, many characters in there.

Hey @Digitalstickmans! Since I get a Snowy dragon in your game, do you want to get a billboard in my game? I’ve seen how good you are with artwork & would love to have an Amazing Space Dragons easter egg in my game
If you want to check out my [STILL OPEN!] Duck Game Artwork Contest thread, that would be awesome!

@SnowyRawrGamer @Amigo54

Thank you for the interest guys! To be honest I’ve been focusing a bit more on my other games and animations while simultaneously working on TASD.

Unfortunately my laptop died around 3 weeks ago, right when I was trying to finish the latest update so I couldn’t really work on anything (Plus Christmas, new year etc)

Last week I bought a small mini pc just to barely resume work, so I will slowly return to my usual schedule.

Maybe I will post the new update at the end of this month. (So far there are new dragons, 16 new stages, a small tutorial and some other tweaks)

EDIT: Also made a website and got a domain but this is still at the early stages
