Note: I’m still underage to apply for a job or get into this.
I am asking game developers about how do they deal with the situation of the current world.
I used AI to improve the clarity of this post by tweaking the sentences.
In order to survive, you need money. You get it by working.
I’ve observed that getting employment is becoming increasingly hard over time. Corporations are switching to AI, believing it to be a magical solution that can replace humans, but AI is not a replacement; it’s a tool that assists. It cannot replicate human creativity, as it functions differently from our brains!
The gaming industry is affected of this trend. Multi-billion-dollar corporations are hesitant to give workers money, but cheerfully spend on AI.
Because of this, they are no longer creating unique, memorable games, but rather producing similar slop with a different appearance.
Given the gaming industry’s instability, as a developer, how do you feel about the future of game development AS A CAREER?
If your talking about triple-A games specifically, then I think the industry is 100% going to be relying on AI more than human developers, as most companies only really care about the money. Although, I don’t think that will be the case for all companies, and public backlash will definitely restrict how much a company can rely on AI.
Indie games, on the other hand, is more 50-50. I think for as many people trying to make actually good games, with art and music done entirely by the developers themselves (or from a team), there will be as many people typing in a prompt, and releasing what was outputted, with separately generated AI art for a cover. Heck, even Gdevelop has an AI prompt for starting a new project (although the game generated came out is kind of a broken mess).
Overall, I think AI will definitely be used a lot by companies to make games. That being said, I don’t think we’re at the point where a game will be made 100% without any bit of human interaction. I do think that there will be a lot more AI slop released on indie game websites though, which is a shame.
They would use AI to help in the development but they wont use AI to generate whole games of the same category with nothing special just like AAA companies
Not all people, but some would. There probably are people that will input a prompt, and release what was outputted, mainly being kids who want to brag to their friends that they published a game, or even people just trying to make some quick money.
That being said, I doubt any devs using AI to make most of their game will not make any minor, or even major adjustments.
