I’ve reworked the object culling and it should run much smoother now. I just tried it on my phone and it seems ok. I’ve added change keys. This addition will mean than if you have a save file already then the keys won’t work …many apologies… delete the save file with the bin icon
If someone could test whether it’s now running smoothly on their system that would be great!

Game is definitely a lot smoother, ran great for me. Also, I would also recommend using keys like Z,X,C, etc for attacks, just like J,K,L, etc. Works much better when using arrow keys over WASD.

Hi petlimpet, I played your game again. There was no lag for me on a laptop, I didn’t play it during the laggy period mentioned above. Oh wow, the game has a name now, nice, I realise now this game is what you were talking about for your voice work in the other thread, haha, very ominous. I think my performance was worse than before, I got the shield but would get stuck in places and never saw the spider. I saw the stork up above me, are the other swooping birds still around? When I zoom out, there is less to see than before, is that because of the culling? In the previous version that I played I liked zooming out/cheating to get a sense of where I should go/explore. The music is great, and the slight change of camera view when I’ve been idle for a while is a nice touch too. Love the fireflies.
Great - thanks @bubble for playing again - did you get stuck to the left underwater? It might be a bit unforgiving down there!. Yes the object culling now reduces the field of view right down. I need to do this is order to make the world bigger. Before the world data was stored inside a grid of screen sized objects but its now inside an a array divided into 100 by 100 squares. It’s difficult to optimize this game as it requires lots of repeat events to generate the shapes and to check to world data. It runs like pants on my ipad but i think ios must throttle the processing on browser apps as it runs fine on my android phone. Many thanks for the feedback!

changed the object culling so that it does it’s stuff over 5frames instead of 1 to try to prevent judder

Yes …sorry about that. It’s the ‘help’ text object …I need to hide it when you’re in the shop! Ignore it for now. It’s all one scene you see as I need to preserve lots of data. ‘lamploes tickle’ doesn’t work yet …I’ll give you a krennit refund if you waste your krennits on it!

How do you refund people in your game? Do you save with firebase? I’m just wondering how it’s done since in my game I use storage for saving and I don’t think there is a way to change other people’s values in storage.

I changed it …I figured it might earn me some negative feedback. Im still going to make it a design mechanic that you’re too heavy to swim …but not that early in the game
That krennit comment was a bit tongue in cheek but for a refund of in game currency with the storage system I guess you’d need a refund code that they put in to credit the last saved transaction. If you had the last transaction as a saved variable in storage then when they get in touch with you wanting a refund of 500 duck dollar. This is far from fool proof but you could use and in game multiplier n and you have one too m. So the code to refund is 500 times n times m.
I have used firebase but I haven’t done this sort of thing with it but there might be people on the forum who have.

@SnowyRawrGamer i’m curious to know how spindly runs on a Mac. It runs like pants on my iPad but it runs great on my android phone. There’s something about the repeat events used to generate the shapes that iOS doesn’t like!
