Forum folk - This is a platformer that i’ve been making featuring vector animations created using shape painter. - watch this game grow!
Latest update - Title music added. press 3 to gain abilities - spider and dragonfly. I moved Gronich’s potion shop! Volcanos added underground. Various bugs fixed and added!. I’m working on the right side of the map at the moment. de de do de de de doo de…
Hi PetLimpet, are you saying that there are no sprites and that everything is done with the shape painter? If so, amazing. And if not, still impressive and yes the spider is insanely good. However, I’m unco at the best of times with this kind of game and having to use wasd was frustrating. I didn’t find the sword, got stuck in a hole and exited out the bottom straight to the spider. Climbed up the ladder but really lost heart and gave up because of wasd and that I’m not very good at it anyway.
As for whether you should continue, if it is all shapepainter and no sprites then it’s really going to appeal to GD users but not be special to anyone else. However, the camera movements and floppiness of the character and general aesthetics are very nice and the game has a special feel about it. So yes, I think you should keep going.
Ooh and you’ve used some of your water and grass dynamic movements from that other thread where a heap of us tried to help. Nice.
Hi @Bubble yes its with shape painter using arrays of points. I’d quite like to make a vector graphics editor for gdevelop but it’s probably a bit niche this stuff. I don’t think someone going to gd games for a good time is going to give this a good review because it’s done in a clever way …it probably needs to be a bit kinder to the player but I tend to make things devious and unkind!
It’s really just three experiments at the moment … vector animation, object culling, and swimming
The sword is in the deepest pool and the shield is far left @Amigo54 …I’ll turn the arrow keys on and re export it!
Exactly. But it really does have a nice visual feel though that many games don’t have because they look similar to other games.
I think the GD devs would love this project. If nothing else it’s a a really good showcase of a creative use of the shape painter and deserves a place somewhere. So I hope someone important sees your game and knows how it’s made.
It’s just the things that move that are shape painter like player, birds and spider etc and the rest is Photoshop using the line select area tool.
What I particularly like is the left right flip on the spider. It’s a bit of a fiddle to do the animations and I need to create a graphics editor in order to do curves properly
Made with Shape Painter! Wouah!
Never used by me.
For me, you should continue this game (it is your laboratory, isn’t it?)
For laughing: you must have “shape on you” ( it is taken from a song of Ophélie WINTER which name is “Shame on you”)
Hi Amigo - you can use arrow keys now and the swords easier to find. I hadn’t used shape painter that much until this but i wanted to see how quickly frames were processed with lots of shapes. It actually runs fairly well. There are slight jitters occasionally but these are due to the object culling. When I first tried this it was laggy but that was because i had dynamic water on which was using 3ms a frame! so that had to go! and the water effect is shockwave. Incidentally if anyone knows how to alter the shockwave origin while the game is running i’d like to know this as i’ve only ever been able to change it in the behaviour settings
PS : ah i like it as it is!
And this effect when we are in the water.
I killed the spider of course but the ambiance of this game is super for me, far away of i use to create.
Many thanks! you mean petlimpet.com? it’s just with ‘hostinger’ - but don’t bother really as it’s honestly an unwarranted expense. I got giddy while making ‘Turtles to the sea’ and thought i needed to look the part, but I shouldn’t really be spending much money on this stuff!
When you export to gd.games there’s a check box to publish - turn that off and it creates a private development link. and you need to uncheck ‘publish on gd.games’ in dashboard/edit details
devlog …I’ve added a zoom out by pressing 1 to see object culling, which still needs a bit of work.
I’m still not sure whether to put all my efforts into this one - might just clean it up a bit, finish this world and thengo backand finish some of the others that i left in limbo…ahh limbo!!..does it remind you of limbo?
