Voyager (2D sandbox game) (Cancelled)

ive created new generation for the Underside, and ive added Bloodvines

it gets tighter in areas now and can even get closed off. I think its much more interesting

You arent guaranteed to have a lamp with you the whole game, its something you get.
So in the dark, it actually looks like this

alpha 1.0.3 gonna be sick as hell

Im so excited to get back on this and explore more of the Underside
It looks so coolll

Well done, it’s a bit good this

People who have played the game, should movement be slower, so that you have the potential to sprint or get faster further in the game?

Yea movement would be a lot better if it was slower especially with the addition of a sprinting/running (or items that affect movement speed) mechanic

it will soon be time to get gavin again…

(gavin kelly is studio qubix composer basically)

Ideas:

Gas powered lamps

Gas powered lamps could be crafted with 2 iron, 1 glass, 1 iron oxide.

Off hand

An inventory slot dedicated to accessories such as the lamp.

Water

Figuring out how to add water..

Crude Oil

If i can figure out how to implement water, i will add crude oil that can be found underground. This oil will sit in your inventory, and as you use your lamp it will slowly decrease.

Opens other possibilities for purifying oil and using it in other ways

Iron Oxide

By rusting iron in water, you can create Iron Oxide

Matches

With matches crafted from 1 wood 1 iron oxide, you could light things on fire, and use these matches to light your lamp if it burns out.

What do you guys think of these ideas and how they work together?

Recipe Book

This book could be found in underground chests, adding a new layer of complexity to crafting valuable items. Not everything just needs resources.

Cook Book

These books also found in chests or random processes, and can reveal new recipes for creating food using the next new, placable item:

Cooking Pot

place food in it…it cooks it!
Lit via matches, you actually cant cook anything horrible with it. I plan to figure out a system where if you put in things labeled as ingredients, it figures out the next best recipe if you dont match one exactly. However, each ingredient has a stat that can interact with everything, and make food more or less effective. Cook books can ask for more exotic ingredients normally not accepted.

Food for thought (no pun intended)

I thought that dropping all of the things in your inventory was really really annoying…and so i thought, if instead, when you died, they all got scattered around in hidden pots, would the player hate their life? what if they were even in the underside…? yknow, the place of souls? with the soul dirt?

Misc updates

Voyager has been moved to a GitHub repository.

Code cleaned up and organized

File system refactored

Now that I think about it, why doesn’t iron in Minecraft rust? I feel like that would be a cool mechanic where as an iron item rusts, it becomes weaker, or is less durable. Ways to work around this would be; 1. to prevent that would be to mix it with other metals to turn it into “stainless steal”, 2. If you can’t find other metals, then you can coat iron items in oil or grease to temporarily halt rusting, although you also have to add other side effects, so maybe it would be to much of a hassle to program.

How is the inventory accessed? I can’t seem to find an inventory.

This is DEEP

Edit: You need a layer of unbreakable blocks below the bottom of the bottom, so players can’t fall out of the world.

thats because there isnt one…i asked that question after this build

Are you planning to update that build?

No because…i…yknow how i am? i didnt yet make the inventory because im procrastinating?

i mean, it will when 1.0.3 releases.

(ok fine ill watch the rest of what you sent me to make it)

i added a stupid cutscene at the beginning of the game

nice
(add ten characters)

isnt that why we have the like button
