I’m facing a problem in developing my games. If I use gdevelop extensions in my game, am I required to mention the name of the developers of that extensions in the game?
That’s new, where you read that from? It’s not 100% required though, it’s nice to show support and mention em as in like special thanks this and that person. No need to make it large and glorious, AGAIN THIS IS ONLY IF YOU WANT. You can choose if you want to give em credit or not. I could be wrong on all this
But there is no explanation about this anywhere, so I am skeptical. I think that when downloading each extension, the license and terms of use should be displayed in the box. So there is no need to give credit to the creators to use the extensions?
To be honest, I thought of this because of the comment about my game on gdgames.![]()
Does anyone know anything about this?
The best people to answer that question accurately are from the development team, but since every extension needs to be published directly to a public repository to be added to the editor’s library, I believe the content will likely follow the same MIT license the editor already uses.
Does that mean the names of the plugin creators should be mentioned in the game?
In this case, I think it would be better to clearly inform the user about the terms of use when installing the plugin.
Please someone give me a detailed answer.
I am waiting for a response. Please if anyone has any information on this matter, please tell me here.
All extensions you find in gdevelop are MIT so you can use them as you please and don’t need to credit any1
Otherwise you would see all games made in gdevelop either have tons of ppl they credit or taken down due not crediting properly
Extensions which you can download from itch or find on discord or github (or any other place) ppl either mention to credit them or don’t but since they don’t have any licenses on their extension they you don’t need to also
There are also paid extensions for example on itch and if someone does not specify that you need to credit author then you don’t need to
But I was criticized by an add-on creator in one of my games, and as I understand it, I was criticized for not giving credit to the creators.
Thank you.
Which?
Can you link page where you was criticized?
Or screenshot it?
I respect the creator of that add-on, and maybe I misunderstood what he meant. I also removed that game from release.
Was it public extension?
Or where did you get it?
It was public. But maybe that person didn’t mean it the way I understood it. Maybe I was criticized for something else. Because the message wasn’t very clear.
Just one more question. Doesn’t the MIT license require the user to give credit?
The extensions that you can install from the extension list in engine are MIT licensed.
If you obtained them elsewhere, it is up to you to find the license.
If the creator published their extension to be in the engine and then complains, they cannot say anything because they agreed to have their extension licensed under MIT to be in the app.
If there is an issue, perhaps they should request for their extension to be removed from the engine. If you would like to let the team know which extension it is by direct message, we will open up a discussion with the author.
I appreciate your guidance. Thank you.
