Why is collaborating a premium only feature?

I would absolutely love to develop games with my friends but sadly do not have the money to spend on a GDevelop subscription.
Honestly developing games alone is kinda boring, don’t get me wrong, it’s very fun and satisfying when you get the outcome you want, but I really have no reason to make games for myself, I only do it because my friends seem so interested in the games I make. One of my friends wants to develop a game with me but I told them I didn’t think it’d be possible.

You can use github For filesharing(FREE).
Export your game as file then Load It To The Cloud.
Then your friends can download the game.

From what i seen so far all online services are limited that’s why
Whatever requires connecting to server is limited one way or another
And servers do not run for free

Like Pirky-Spike said you have alternative
So it is not like you are locked away from doing something
You just need to do it via other means

That makes sense.
And I do have some alternatives but they are still very limited.

Get Git, you will love it. I did not like it at first but I was on Windows and was trying to use gitdesktop or something and it was unintuitive to me. Then I tried the Bash utility and it’s super simple. You don’t have to be a power user, I really only memorized the commands I use a lot and just web search if I need something else.

I don’t actually use github much, I find it easier to host my own bare repos on an offline device that I can access on whatever pc I’m using. But I will say github has excellent tutorials that walk you through every process you need from creating your git profile, your first repo, everything. Very nice resource, I would use it much more if I was into collab things (too much of a dictator I fear…)

Edit to add, I am a subscriber to the gdevelop.io Gold service and I love the perks. I don’t want anyone thinking I am detracting from their services, they do a brilliant job with them. I just really like Git, lol

Is GDevelop membership worth it?
I think for a year, it’s good, but I want to know, for the price, which membership is the most ideal?

I like the yearly rates, they’re very reasonable compared to other subscription services. I think even the Silver is a good bargain if you’re on a budget and want a little more oomph from the services. I started with Silver before they had a yearly, then switched to Gold when they got the yearly.

I think to find the most ideal membership, you need to compare the plans carefully. Some people can get by with Free, some with Silver etc. For example Gold doesn’t have Collab but I don’t feel I need that yet. (However Pro is pretty tempting for other reasons so who knows…) For me right now I like the Gold, it is little more than Silver but I get way more perks plus 300 credits and a premium asset pack every month, which makes me feel like I get the money spent on the subscription back anyway.

One thing I have really enjoyed is that, when I started GDevelop and decided to go from free to Silver, the services were more limited and I just wanted to contribute something. I remember I would build my own projects and think, well I will build my own projects so they can use my subscription to help them cover the costs of some free builds for someone else. There almost didn’t seem to be a point to get a subscription unless you needed extra builds (still build my own by the way). However the services have just scaled and grown and become more valuable - so many new features and more in the works - that now it feels like a solid worth to have a subscription.

I appreciate your detailed explanation, I totally understand.
I actually started with GDevelop a couple years back, before they had credits, I actually don’t know what they do at all.

You can use google-drive.
If its under 10GB then it will be free.
