Hi - I’m currently lip-sycing animations and one of the things that’s making this a complete pain, is that there seems to be no way to add/remove an index at a value in the variable editor. Here im using the global variable editor (i want them available across scenes) and the numbers represent animations in a sequence split into .1second intervals. It would be great if i could for example right click on index 12 and add a zero to create a longer gap without having to shift all 85 minus 12 children down one manually, test it, and then decide that it was better as it was.
After completing ‘welcome’ with 85 children i did decide to make the audio clips shorter because of the reason stated above! But it would still be useful to right click and add an index. If this is already possible then tell me im a muppet and ill move swiftly along.
Multi edit would be cool
But i totally wonder why you are doing this trough variable editor and not events?
I’m going back and forth between an audio editor and gdevelop checking where the f’s and t’s and oh’s on the timeline and then putting the sequence into the array.
i guess i could use a text var and read the string instead of an array, which might be the solution to what im doing as you can then insert gaps but i was surprised that you can’t seem to insert an index in the variable editor. Actually thinking about it, using a text that wouldn’t work as id need to count the string each time.
Checking 10 variiables is less porformance heavy
Than checking 10 characters in one string
I did test it with object culling
And instead of creating huge array
I created strings of data and read trough them to find X and Y and Angle and ObjectName and other values
It took way longer when i switched to strings
IDK how much performance gain it will have in your case
But i learned the hard way that strings for lot of data management is not the way if you need to read multiple characters from that strings
performance isn’t really a problem here. The string idea was just a thought as you can insert a character easily. It’s working the way i’m doing it by reading an array but it’s a bit of a pain when i need to do something like create a longer or shorter gap between words.
Cause you are trying to dynamically edit something that is static
If we have typwriter
You don’t add tons of spaces to make text last longer so player have chance to read it
You start to program logic for it
I would make array for text i wanna display
And each child would reflect text ID
So child 0 is for test id 0 and so go on
And childs would hold number values that would determine gaps length
And now i would need to have gaps between each text like short delay but they would need to be there
But i could totally just go into that array change delay for text #5 to 17 seconds and not worry about anything else
Cause everything else would be untouched
SOOOO you should break logic for words aside for logic for gaps
And now one would not affect another
I appreciate the tips and there are ways around this - like i could have numbers over 100 describe a gap and the amount over 100 says how long the gap is eg 110 is a 1second gap, but back to the request. Its surely a good thing to be able to do it? Like if you have database of moves for an AI thats 200 long in an array and you want to add some stuff at the start and remove some in the middle it would be nice to be able to do it in the editor rather than events.
Never seen any feature request being implemented in days or even weeks idk
So i prefer to focus on providing workaround
Where like i said multi edit would be cool
I already realized today i can click on resource then hold shift and click on another and all resources in between will be selected
SMOOTH or UN SMOOTH images at once in your face
SO i am always in for features that will let us do less busy work
So anyway
I cannot think of any downside of your request
So i would totally see it implemented at some point
