npm install gives me error that it can’t locate files.

That’s a problem with npm. Try to install the LTS version of NodeJS and update npm from here and try again. Else try also with administrator command prompt.
Ok I updated npm from node 13.5.0.
And ran npm-check to see what am I missing and update to run the project.

But still when it tries to read a file from node_modules it gives the same error

Command prompt is ran as administration.

Try to move the directory cloned from GitHub to the to of your filesystem
Do you mean moving the files, out of the GitHub repository?
If yes should I just extract the Gdevelop-master.zip and start again from there?
I don’t recommend using the zip variant in general. You should use git and if it is too complicated use GitHub desktop. I am telling you to move the repository to C:. For example C:\Users\pc\GDevelop (contains Core, newIDE etc) → C:\GDevelop.

You should try to uninstall node Js and reinstall the LTS version

I reinstalled everything, this time I cloned the repository using Git (before I used Github desktop).
It seemed to be installing fine at first, but after a few minutes I got this error

Well, Atom doesn’t include a C compiler, so you will indeed need to install visual studio apparently

It finally worked!!!
It seems there were some compatibility issues with Node 13.5.0, and after downgrading to 12.14.0 everything worked fine. Also the Visual Studio was definitely necessary.
