Game jam 9 devlogs

can you slap an effect on it - its quite a harsh sample? i’m not sure about the detune stuff when there’s no beat …is that on the piano?

@petlimpet The piano sample wasn’t really altered, other than the attack being slightly increased, since a weird pop sound plays when an audio sample doesn’t start silent, for some reason.

The sample was also out of tune when I first added it as well, maybe that has something to do with it.

This is assuming your previous reply was talking about the piano sample specifically, instead of the whole track.

its particularly at the start.

that’s odd …there were weird clicks when i first played it but not the second time …but it might have been because i had cubase open.
i played it again and didn’t mind it as much … but the piano sample is pretty much the only thing i dont like on it!

From what I know, the popping sounds are problem with lmms itself, specifically an extension used to manage sound samples, since the popping doesn’t show up for me when I use a soundfont or a synth that isn’t a pre recorded sample, along with drum percussion.

Day Idk Anymore lol: After adding music and sfx and all that, I have successfully released LAZARUS on itch.io and gd.games with a GameJolt release coming soon!!!

Day 7:
Lots of people played my game and gave feedback, and I ended up releasing 2 updates in the same day!

ok - ‘Top Hat’ submitted! Added a hat with feathers that you can ride on today for level 4.

Hi Dave!

Your game is great, graphically and in terms of gameplay.
Fits well with the theme of the GameJam “Always higher”.

Good luck to you for the GameJam.

Xierra

Final day for me: Created a bunch of things, along with a tiny animation for the ending. I had my siblings play test my game. Both of them have no idea how to play, I suppose I should expect this from a big percentage of the players as well :frowning: Maybe I will spend some more time on the tutorial.
I want to troubleshoot the many issues of my game here, but unfortunately the time won’t be enough to try to fix all the issues. (I still have to go outside and do my cardio run for today  sorry game jam)

I guess you guys will get to try it tonight. Looking forward to trying your games as well, once this is over.

Hello @Digitalstickmans

Do you hope to be able to publish it in time?

Xierra

Hi Lucas - dm me if you need a tester …i might get some time to after tea!

my son just play tested mine …i think it wound him up a bit, and he found the enemies really annoying - so i’ve tried to sort them out a bit!

Thanks Xierra - I think it’s going to get some rage quitters because of the game mechanics, but i like it!

Final day for me:

Didn’t really do any work today, as I’m working on other things!

Final Day: I havent been doing anything really since no one has given any feedback for LAZARUS yet so Ive been playing RimWorld and Postal 2 lol

i added one star to your game because i feel boring the gameplay.I never care about graphic or lack of sounds and soundracks but i annoyed by wrongly choosed ones or if is that a very loud one. This happened me in your game. The title music not good for me and i believed that its game better without it.Also the jump sound is annoying and loud!

Thanks for the kind reply @petlimpet and @Amigo54

I guess you can test it now and tell me if there are any huge issues.

Almost 3 am here so I’m going to sleep.

If I have time I will try to make corrections tomorrow, otherwise so be it

Zenith Cube by Digital Stickman Games

Hi Dsm, I had a play. Great job with the visuals and choice of music. The garage area doesn’t have any music?

I was confused at first and definitely didn’t do well. I didn’t realise the red boosters were boosters so I was just firing them when I was in the wrong orientation.

At first I was really only able to get to the first platform if I only had one tool, the red booster. But then there was nothing on that platform to pick up so then I went back to the base and loaded myself up with boosters and couldn’t move haha. Then I just equipped slots 1 and 3 and did get to the first platform after bouncing off a lot of times haha. But that’s it for me though, I can’t get to platform 2.

I really like it though, it’s clever and well done. When I read the instructions I thought it was going to be too confusing but the numbers and colours system works really well and you’ve done a great job in making it clear in the game with the colour hints.

Thank you for playing Bubble! And for your kind comments!

You are right, I forgot to include music in the garage, I was pushing to complete the level so I will admit I didn’t pay that much attention to it or to the more extreme combinations. Just pushed a final update that includes it!

I feel you, this game is hard. I created the game yet stages 3 and 4 are hell for me. It takes a while to get used it. I wanted to explain everything more but unfortunately there was not enough time.

Restarting the stage is essential in this game, since the player will make many mistakes. As I wanted some strategy involved you will need to experiment with your equipment. For the first stage you need to equip 3 or 4 Jumpers and aim them correctly in order to pass it. You can also do it with 2 but it takes very good aiming.

Hi Taco, hope you’re not asleep! I’m just having a play now. First feedback, thank you for arrow controls but I think you also need wasd especially as mouse use is needed. And the wasd people will hate you if you don’t include them.

Love the moving up platform.

So far the only sound is the jumping sound, my feedback for that is ouch!

Just sending this off now in case you’re around, will update when I’ve played more.

Update
I think I’ve reached as far as I can go.

Feedback, excellent work with the camera, it’s amazingly smooth. I think you’ve done a good job with mixing challenging with do-able. This is not a game type I usually play so my abilities with it are low. But after I fell into the light brown vertical shaft it was good to have a way to get out of it, not too hard, not too easy.

The only feedback I really have that might require some effort is to have some kind of indicator of how far there is to go. Like the indicator on the side of a web page, or a camera zoom out button. But if those things are not compatible with this style of game then so be it.

Also, for me, I would make it a bit brighter but I know that that’s not the way with this type of game.

Overall though, good job, well done.

Zgc, you’re hovering around giving likes, how is your jam game going?
