As you probably all know, GDevelop has an AI. While is Ai is ̶p̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶r̶a̶s̶h̶ not very good, GDevelop keeps updating it over and over.
It has come to a point where I am wondering…does GDevelop even NEED an Ai?
Lets take a look at the pros vs the cons of the GDevelop Ai.
Users:
Pros:
Can answer questions you have
Can fix bugs in your game
Better then ChatGPT (sometimes)
Cons:
Limited uses before paying
You aren’t getting answers from a nice human
Sort of replaces the forum
Sucks a lot of the time
Can be used to mass produce slop games
̶N̶o̶t̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶g̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶p̶e̶t̶l̶i̶m̶p̶e̶t̶
GDevelop:
Pros:
Helps users with their development problems
Incentives people to purchase GDevelop subscriptions
According to the internet, everyone loves Ai and there are zero downsides and therefore we should have an AI because no one is going to make an entire forum thread wondering what it’s use is.
Cons:
Costs GDevelop Money
Users might leave the engine if they dislike AI ̶(̶o̶r̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶p̶e̶t̶l̶i̶m̶p̶e̶t̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶)̶
Overall, judging by the pros and cons, I would say the GDevelop AI is alright, but not needed. I personally would be happier if GDevelop took an opposite approach to this AI system.
What if they went from this:
GDevelop could brag that they are one of the only game engines run by REAL ̶l̶i̶m̶p̶e̶t̶s̶ Humans instead of AI!

Imagine all of the ̶f̶e̶a̶t̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶r̶e̶q̶u̶e̶s̶t̶s̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ wonderful updates that help the whole community GDevelop could use their time and money on instead!

I personally don’t use it but there are people in the Play store reviews and even on this forum that say they use it. If it sells subscriptions or credit then who are we to say no.
I dont understand tho why everysingle thing apps, websites, games, company’s, they all have got their own AI now!
My Mail Proton got a an AI , Gdevelop now! and now , even grocery shops websites have AI like woolworths and Coles they all have an AI to help you out.
My package gets lost, and u want to retrieve it, u click help at the bottom of a the website (as in most) and instead of having a chat with a worker it takes u to AI!!!
It will replace Researching very fast!
instead of people looking for a answers they and ask AI AI AI AI AI AI AI AI
They will let it take control over everything!
they already have! there’s AI in peoples houses that control their Phones, CCTV and waaaaay more.
This is only the beginning, i guarantee you if i and u still come here on this forum (if its still here ) 1-5 years later too much will have changed
If thats not enough even teachers at school now use AI to check all of the students answers!
And AI for driving cars, then theres nobody to blame when it crashes!
As long as the AI is optional and I can largely ignore it doesn’t bother me. I don’t like how the marketing/ad copy on the front page for the engine makes it seem like it’s a major component of the engine and GDevelop games in general use it though. If it was advertised as just one of many optional features that’d be fine.
This is purely coincidence, but I received a marketing email from GDevelop today that says…
"As emphasized by McKinsey and Forbes, thriving in an AI-dominated world requires not only technical expertise but also human-centered skills like innovation and creativity. "
I believe that AI also risks widening the gap between those who master AI and those who know nothing or little about it.
AI is very trendy today. Also, everyone (companies especially) are switching to AI, not because they couldn’t live without it but quite simply out of fear of being overtaken by others.
And yet, we are far from having seen everything with this AI.
