How do i make a party member follow the player

So i am programming a turn-based RPG, and my plan is that when the player moves, the party behinds comes along. i’m pretty novice at this (this is my second game making attempt haha) if anyone knows how to do it please share it with me. my sincere thanks to anyone who answers!

Something like this might work:
Player is facing up then move party member towards Player.X(); Player.Y()+somenumber
Player is facing right then move party member towards Player.X()-somenumber; Player.Y()
Player is facing down then move party member towards Player.X(); Player.Y()-somenumber
Player is facing left then move party member towards Player.X()+somenumber; Player.Y()
