How Often Do You ACTUALLY Use The Built-In Sprite Editor?

Personally I use it pretty frequently, as it’s useful, mostly convenient, but not as useful as some other editors, although I would use others, I’m not sure which ones to use.
I think the Piskel editor has some problems with performance on low-end computers, and it’s a bit wonky when it comes to the functionality of some things.
For example a lot of the time for me the backup feature doesn’t work, so I have to download all of the sprites I want to save. Very annoying IMO.
I kinda just want some opinions here, do you think the built-in Piskel editor is good, do you use it often, if not what editors do you use for art?

I am using GIMP and Librepsrite/Aseprite

Where Libresprite is free earlier version of Aseprtie

GIMP is also free but is bit more advanced while he lacks some features which i find in Libre/Aseprite

In all 3 cases A LOT of tutorials on youtube how to do stuff in them
Where whatever video you find for Aseprtie will work in Libresprite
It only lacks few features

Other than that i know people use Pixelorama which is also free and closer to Libre/Aseprite

Then there is Kitra i used only once but its free and looked capable of many things

I use Aseprite, and only really use the built in editor for minor adjustments.

To be honest, piskel is kind of basic, I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to make more complex sprites.

Hello, ResinTheFuriousMage

I tried to use built-in Piskel for a while, but I found some problems using it inside of Gdevelop:

I don’t know if this problems still happen. So, now I just use built-in piskel for make projects for tests.
I tried Krita for some time, but I don’t recommend it anymore if you’re going to do pixel art. There are many small bugs that haven’t been fixed.
Today I use Pixelorama and it works great. :+1:

If I use the built in editor, it is to make a quick bucket filled square or something.

I have used LibreSprite, it is good and as mentioned has plenty of tutorials if you count that you can pretty much watch an Aseprite tutorial and follow along. You could just get Aseprite, I believe it is reasonably priced and people give it good reviews. I just don’t do much pixel art.

I use Inkscape for art. Probably because it was the first drawing program I ever used that allowed me to produce encouraging results, which charmed me into staying with it and becoming proficient with it.

I have had weird stuff happen with the built in editor of GDevelop when I first started and would try just to make some quick art as I created events for the project - to be replaced later. Stuff like, it not saving correctly or showing up later as a broken link, if I tried to undo too many things in the editor it would crash, etc etc. So I just stopped using it unless I needed like a quick square. But that could have been fixed long ago by Piskel, I just haven’t bothered since years ago when I tried and kept running into issues. Really I find it far quicker to keep Inkscape open in the background, make a quick generic graphic and export it to my game assets folder at what size I need. So I really don’t use the built in editor much.
