How to metroidvania youtube video (and project?)

I discovered Gdevelop a couple of days ago. I’m no programmer nor I have any education in the Gdevelop language system but I would really really love to make a game. On youtube I saw this video “How to metroidvania” in the Gdevelop youtube channel. Is it possibile to get the project used in the video? It would really be a great kickstart to me. Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome.

The example is linked in the description of the video, but here you go Conviction of gun dude desktop - a game example from the GDevelop game making app | GDevelop.

If you have no experience with Gdevelop or game making, I would suggest to make one or two of the official tutorials to become familair with the engine and some basic concepts GDevelop 5 tutorials [GDevelop wiki]. Otherwise it may be difficult to understand what is going on in the example project.

Hello Drona,

Thank you, but this is not the project showed inthe video. I am talking about the double jump, dash, pound, etc. The example you linked is for a dungeon crawler, not a metroidvania. Thanks again

You are right, somehow I assumed that you mean the example I linked, although that is a completely different genre.
It seems the example from the video you actually mean is not available. There is another example for a metroidvania which you can find here Not a vania - a game example from the GDevelop game making app | GDevelop. It can be a bit difficult to understand if you just start with the engine.

The jump-extension and the related events are explained in the metroidvania-video, so you need to be more specific what you need to know about it.

Hi Drona,

I’m very sad that the example project for that video doesn’t exist. But thanks for the one you provided. I really didn’t need anything particoular, I just wanted a very specific template to study and on which build something of mine. I hope I can find the example you gave me as useful as the one that doesn’t exist. Thanks a lot.

As the author of the example, I wanted to just note: Not-a-Vania is meant to replicate a classic castlevania moreso than a metroidvania. (Levels, not unified maps with a zone). However, much of the concepts can be used in either.
